JUNIOR AUXILIARY TO HAVE BENEFIT LUNCHEON SEPT. 29
The Presbyterian Junior Auxiliary meeting at the home of Mrs. Eldon Paddock, 820 N. Dickel St., was for the most part filled in making plans for the benefit luncheon Saturday, September 27 at the church dining hall.
Planners of the 1 p.m. luncheon and program are Mrs. Eldon Paddock, Mrs. Robert Baker, Mrs. Ray Reafsnyder and Mrs. Cleo Quarton, receiving and publicity committee; Mrs. Robert Baker and Mrs. Royal Martens, co-chairmen of program committee; Mrs. John Kelsay, luncheon; Mrs. Safford Minder, serving; Mrs. Lloyd Ross and Miss Corinne Buzzell, tickets; and Mrs. Harry Moore, decorations.
The special guest at the business meeting was Miss Evelyn Thompson of Anaheim. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Paddock who was aided by Mrs. Herbert Deane and Mrs. Richard Wise, assistant hostesses.
The next regular session of the Auxiliary will be at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Ross, 409 N. Pine St., October 20.
All persons interested in attending the benefit luncheon should buy tickets from members of the Auxiliary.
BPW Club Hears Book Review
"The Preacher's Wife," the book reviewed by Miss Dora Garstang of the Santa Ana Adult Education Department, was the highlight of Thursday night's Business and Professional Women's Club's meeting at the home of Mrs. Bernice Miles in Fullerton.

St. Boniface P.-T. A. Plan Activities for New School Year
Among the many clubs that are making plans for the new school year is the St. Boniface P.-T. A., who began their plans at a meeting Friday in the parish hall.
Mrs. Oscar Heying, president, introduced Rev. Henry Gross who in turn welcomed the many new members of the Association. The group completed plans for a rage drive September 29 to October 3 and a rummage sale October 20 to 24. Members to plan the two events will be appointed by Mrs. John Kirsch, chairman of the ways and means committee.
In October, the meeting will be planned by the mothers of eight grade students.
Past Noble Grands Make Year's Plans At Brea Meeting
Mrs. Edna Brambley was hostess to the Past Noble Grands of Lois Rebekah Lodge at her home in Brea Thursday evening.
Plans and activities announced at the business meeting included the Annual Card Party and cedar chest award in the fall and the Bazaar, always a red letter day of the club's calendar.
After the regular session was adjourned, the group present enjoyed a weiner bake in the patio of the Brambley home.

DAR Members Have First Meeting in Democracy Theme
The Mother Colony Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its first meeting of the year this afternoon at 2:30 at the Pioneer House on N. West St.
The theme for the afternoon was "In Defense of Democracy," under the direction of Mrs. Honor Easton.
Hostesses were Mrs. Charles A. Pearson and Miss Mary A. MeLure.
Los Angeles Folk Give Delightful Open-House Party
Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Mayer of Los Angeles, brother and sister-in-law of Mrs. E. L. Davis of this city, were hosts at a very delightful open-house party Sunday afternoon at their 24th St. home. The occasion was in celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary.
Two hundred guests, including Mr. and Mrs. Davis, enjoyed the Mayers' hospitality with talented pupils of Mary Catching Wall of Los Angeles entertaining at intervals during the party. Miss Helene Rico of Hollywood, a soprano who as soloist at the San Diego Fair, was on the program along with Mrs. Lummie Wooton. Miss Catherine Luedern and Mrs. Clara Mayer, daughter of the hosts, all of Los Angeles.
Decorations in the home featured floral arrangements of asters, dahlias, gladioli and chrysanthemum.

Guests at Thursday's meeting were Irene Zitzmann, Minnie Koehler and Sybil Burdin.
YLI Plan for Garden Party
The Young Ladies Institute of Anaheim continued to make plans for its October 8 Garden Party at the home of Miss Agnes Callens on Cerritos Rd., at a regular business meeting at St. Boniface Hall Monday night.
Misses Margaret Fluor and Mae LeVecke, co-chairmen of the ways and means committee, are in charge of the social event. The public will be invited to be present.
After the business session, the group of twenty-five adjourned to the Coast Ice Cream plant for refreshments.
Topperettes in Business Session
The Topperettes met at the home of Mrs. Vangie Schumacher on N. Philadelphia St, recently for a regular business session.
The club president, Eleanor Rogers, presided over the meeting at which time the design for a club pin was voted upon. It was decided that the next meeting, scheduled Tuesday at the home of Zelpha Rippey in Whittier, will be guest night.
The game of hearts was the diversion of the evening and prizes were won by Mrs. Anita Nankervis and Mrs. Maxine Carlson.
The hostess, Mrs. Schumacher, was assisted in her duties by Miss Mildred Bell and Miss Thelma Woods.
Present besides those mentioned above were Agnes Moore of Garden Grove, Mary Whitaker of Palm Beach and Patricia Butler of Fullerton.
Elliott Son Feted On Fifth Birthday
On the occasion of his fifth birthday, Bobby Elliott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Elliott of Ball Rd., celebrated his birthday with ten of his playmates last Friday afternoon at his home.
A pink and white color scheme carried out in gum drop favors and flowers decorated the tables set out in the yard. A nicely frosted birthday cake with five candles served as a centerpiece.
Children present were Virlee and Karen Elliott, cousins of Bobby; Carlene and Ronnie Doller, Mildred Buehler, Charlie Hill, Cernona Oelkers, all of Anaheim and Judy Wittam of Santa Ana.
Both Bobby's grandmothers, Mrs. F. L. Freeman and Mrs. W. J. Elliott, were present. Other grown-ups attending were Mrs. F. W. Elliott, Bobby's aunt; Mrs. Herman Ramsey, Mrs. George Oelkers, Mrs. Warren Doller, Mrs. Carl Corn, Miss Bethel Elliott, and Miss Mary Louise Ramsey of Anaheim and Mrs. M. Whittam of Santa Ana. Invited but not able to attend were Mrs. Ann Hill and Mrs. Romona Wallace and son, Richard, also of Anaheim.
Sewing Club Meets At Foster Home
Five members of the Anaheim Sewing club met at the home of Mrs. W. H. Foster on Crescent Ave., for an afternoon of sewing, visiting and refreshments.
Guests included Mrs. Edwin Stafford, Mrs. Earl Baum, Mrs. Bird Cross, Mrs. George Alden and Mrs. W. H. Wingfield.
The club's October meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Stafford.

Members Have Meeting in Legacy Theme
Under Colony Chapter of Mariners' Club made plans for the next three months at a regular meeting last week at the home of the Robert E. Bakers at 900 N. Clementine St.
Plans included a banquet to be held October 1 with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Wood as chefs and Mr. and Mrs. Royal Marten in charge of the program. In November, either a carnival or a party will be staged and in December, the club will repeat its "Pal Week," which was so successful last year.
The remainder of the meeting was spent in exchanging ideas on how to increase membership and in hearing committee reports.
The next executive board meeting will be October 8 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Knutzen, 316 W. South St.
Mr. and Mrs. Jay Leave for Big Bear After Wedding Rites
Miss Phyllis Helmick became Mrs. James Jay beneath a white flowered altar Friday night. Rev. Stanley Frederick George pronounced the couple man and wife at the Presbyterian church of Anaheim.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nixon Jay of this city and Miss Helmick is the daughter of Mrs. C. A. Franklin of San Francisco and P. R. Helmick of Seal Beach.
The bride's attendants were Mrs. Ellen Jay, matron-of-honor and sister-in-law of the groom, Misses Jean Yokum and Joyce Putnam, bridesmaids. Best man was Nixon Jay, brother of James Frantz Lehmer and Bill Ross were ushers.
Mariners Embark On Last Three Months of Year

Mrs. Gladys McKenna and children, Kenneth and Clotha, of Ennis, Tex., were houseguests of Mrs. McKenna's aunt, Mrs. J. W. Swain of 919 E. Center St. Being the first trip the Texans had taken to California, Mrs. Swain showed them points of interest at San Diego, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Pasadena and surrounding territory. They stayed eleven days.
At Balboa Home
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kinney of Balboa opened the doors of their beach cottage to several Anaheim friends Sunday. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Peck, Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Cowan and daughter, Vera, Mrs. Flora DeWitt, Miss Camelia Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burchfeldt and Mr. and Mrs. James Hoxie.
Visit Sons in Texas
Mrs. D. A. Davis and Mrs. Oscar Hendershott of Cypress recently visited their sons, Donald Davis and Park Henderschott, at Corpus Christi, Tex." The two boys are at the airport in that city. The visitors stayed two weeks.
Garden Club to Meet
Members of the Anaheim Garden Club will meet for a barbecue dinner at the home of Mrs. L. Dahlmann on Olive Rd., Friday evening. Special guests will be the member's husbands and friends.
Home from 3800 Mile Trip
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Riutcel with son, Wally, of 507 N. Clementine St., arrived home yesterday from a four state trip that lasted two weeks. Stops were at Tacoma, Seattle, Spokane, Coulee Dam.
Spend Week Vacation
Miss Vada Beth Furrey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Furrey of 310 N. Claudina St., is spending part of her week vacation at LA Beach and Santa Maria.
From San Luis Obispo
Bud Fassell, son of the Willow Fassells of 808 N. Zeyn St., is with his parents on a two weeks' tour from Camp San Luis Obispo.
Two at Balboa Island
Miss Adelaide Price, school nurse, and her sister, Mrs. Kate Spottswood, assistant librarian at the public library, spent last week at Balboa Island. A special guest on Tuesday was Miss Elva Hankett, children's librarian.
Student at Prep School
It's back to school for students of the Southland and among the returning to schools and colleges throughout the nation was Almarion Caracausa, son of Mr. Mrs. M., Caracausa of 117 Helena St., who left last week attend San Diego Army and N Academy at Carlsbad. Albert entered the prep-school as a resident student.

Mrs. Eva Young of Long Bay made one of her occasional visits to Anaheim and stayed with Charles L. Marshall of 116 Bush St. over the week-end.

Leave for Colorado
Mr. and Mrs. F. LeRoy Marsh of 300 N. Janss St., accompanied by Miss Pauline Houts, also of Anaheim, left Friday night by car for Colorado where they will stay two weeks. The Marshes will visit the Ben Whites at Eagle and Miss Houts will stay with friends in Denver. The Marshes' daughter, Mrs. Walter Nankervis, with her husband from Garden Grove are staying at the Marshes' home while they are away.

Wednesday afternoon visitors at the Edwards home were Mrs. Pearl Moore and daughter, Ruth, of Long Beach. Mrs. Moore's daughter was a teacher at Anaheim High School three years ago.
Librarian in Louisiana
Miss Catherine Heinz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Heinz of 551 S. Palm St., left last week to accept a position as librarian at St. Vincent's College in Shreveport.
Entertains Colonel
Mr. and Mrs. F. J. McGowen of the Ranchita of Anaheim entertained Colonel and Mrs. Val Miltenberger of San Pedro with a chicken dinner at the Sunkist Ranch last Thursday.
McLaughlin Home
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McLaughlin of Crescent Rd., returned recently from Klamath River where they spent a restful three weeks having good luck at fishing and enjoying the weather.
Mrs. Williams Returned
Mrs. Howard Williams, wife of Howard "Curly" Williams, owner of "Curley's Cafe," returned home this week from a six week's trip to Nevada, Oklahoma and Iowa visiting relatives. She also spent a short time with her brother in Bowie Camp; Texas.
Woods in North
Dr John Wood of 542 S. West St. spent last week in San Francisco. His wife joined him for the last two days before they returned Sunday to Anaheim.
Mrs. Saunder's Guests Leave
Guests of Mrs. Myrtia Saunders of W. Broadway left today for their homes in Amarillo, Texas after spending two weeks here. They were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Robertson with children, Carl and Harold; Mrs. C. Robertson, and Mrs. Emma Stankey, mother of Mrs. Saunders. This was their first visit and they were shown the beaches and other points of interest near here.

The Wesley Methodist Bible Class will hold a Sunday School party at the home of Mrs George Findley at 529 S. Los Angeles St. tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. Class members and friends are invited.
Truxaw Son Leaves
Leaving Monday for Seattle was Robert Truxaw, son of Dr. and Mrs. J. W., Truxaw of 887 S. Los Angeles St. He will become a member of the University of Washington student body for this year.
