About YoreAnaheim

YoreAnaheim is a full-text searchable archive of historic Anaheim-area newspapers — the Anaheim Gazette (1870–1964) and its sister publications, the Anaheim Bulletin, Orange County Plain Dealer, and Anaheim Daily Herald, plus a curated collection of articles on Anaheim's famous Halloween Festival.

The original issues survive only as image scans — photographs of the printed page with no underlying text. To make them searchable, every one of the 52,891 pages was read by a vision model (optical character recognition) and indexed for full-text search. When you open a result you see the original scan beside the machine-read text, with your search terms highlighted.

OCR of century-old newsprint is imperfect — faded ink, broken type, and tight columns all trip it up — so an occasional misread is expected. The original PDF is always one click away for anything the transcript gets wrong.
