Dons Ready For Laverne Tussle
Many Subs To Be Used In Friday Night Game; Have Two Backfields
Drawing up the curtain on the 1941 grid season, Bill Cook's Don footballers, defenders of the National Jaysee title, mix with the Laverne College varsity tomorrow night in the Santa Ana Municipal bowl. Kickoff is slated for 8 o'clock.
Having lost most of last season's talent to Southern Cal, San Francisco University, and San Diego State, coaches Cook and Ward have been forming a nucleus around LeRoy Littlejohn, center; Ralph Barnes, half; Whitey Rogge, half; Pruny Parsons, quarter; Joe Nargucci and Homer Hannaford, co-captains.
The Don mentor will have two backfields to use as in seasons previous, but it is doubtful as to his probable line up. One of the workable backfield combinations will be made up of Barnes and Rogge, halves; Parsons, quarter; and Bob Green, full. Dick Eggers, Chuck Page, and Jim Kobayashi alternate at halves on the other foursome, with Pete Zucco and Joe Nargucci at full and quarterback positions.
Cook indicated he would substitute freely in tomorrow night's game, giving as many players as possible a chance to show their wares. Potential starting lineup follows: LE, Winkler; LT, McMillan; LG, Hannaford; C, Newquist; RG, Roussos; RT, Bovee; RE, Smith; B. Parsons; RH, Kobayashi; LF, Rogge; FB, Zucco.

Flight Instructor H. O. CPT coordinator for this advised yesterday. The will include 30 preliminary dents and 10 secondary pilots current division will beginning Sept. 22, when ground classes get underway. App for admission may be made morning during next week's flight office, Bungalow J., junior college campus, Te Main streets, Santa Ana.

War Relief Committee
Seeks Clothing and Shoes For England
The Christian Science Monitor reports that midst bombings and the migration of masses of evacuees in Britain, there is still a constant need for warm clothing, shoes and knitted goods. A steady stream of supplies continues to go forward from Boston, Mass., under the auspices of the Christian Science War Relief committee, which is receiving these shipments from units throughout the United States and Canada. A War Relief Canteen from this organization has reached England safely and is furnishing meals daily for people in districts recently bombed.
The local Christian Science War Relief committee, located at 300 East Center street, recently made a large shipment of new and used warm clothing, shoes and knitted goods. Dresses and underwear of warm material for women and children are now being prepared. A display of the finished colthing will be made at an early date. Donations of warm clothing and shoes will be acceptable at any time.
Fashion Show To Be Featured at Elk’s Carnival

Fresh from the designers these customers will be the latest and most authentic fashions to prevail during the coming fall and winter.

Board Re-elects All Bureau Heads
Satisfaction with officers of the Orange County Farm Bureau was expressed last week-end when the board of directors for the body sessioned for the purpose of electing officers for the ensuing year. The entire group of last year's officials were re-elected.
Those who will continue in office are: F. C. Latham, Santa Ana, president; A. D. Smiley, Garden Grove, vice president; V. C. Heil, Smeltzer, second vice president; H. H. Gardner, Orange treasurer, and S. W. Stanley, of Tustin, state delegate. Stanley was elected for a two-year term under a recent change in the bylaws of the organization.
How important, often, is the pain of guilt, as a stimulant to amendment and reformation.

Farm Bureau To Consider Plans For Institute
The fall institute for citrus growers of Orange County will be held at the Anaheim High School on October 23, according to action taken by the Agricultural Extension Service and the Citrus Department of the Orange County Farm Bureau at their regular session last week.
The institute is a regular annual event conducted by these two agencies cooperating, and has become a popular forum for presentation and discussion of current events in the citrus industry.
A special institute committee has been appointed to complete the program details for the day. The committee includes Frank Collins, Orange; C. J. Mauerhan, Anaheim; H. H. Gardner, Villa Park; and Harold E. Wahlberg, County Farm Advisor.
The citrus department instructed the committee to include discussion on marketing and distribution of citrus fruits, transportation, prorate developments and cultural subjects of seasonal interest. Speakers will be drawn from the citrus marketing agencies, the University of California and growers.
