MOORE MAY GO TO LA STATE Myrel Moore R SANTA ANA — Myrel Moore has resigned as head football coach at Santa Ana College, but indicated his intention to remain at the college as an assistant coach and instructor. In a letter to SAC athletic director John Ward Monday, Moore announced his decision to step down from his one year old post of head coach of the Don football team. The news was not released until Wednesday. Official termination will not come until Tuesday evening when the school board is expected to accept the resignation. Thus far Ward has received four requests for the vacant job. Most prominent among those seeking the post thus far are two successful Santa Ana Coaches. Dick Coury of Mater Dei High School, who has led the Monarchs to six Angelus League titles in seven years, has expressed an interest in the college job. Likewise Dick Hill, coach of Freeway League champion Santa An Valley High School. Coury told the Daily News this morning reports he is seeking the post are inaccurate. CLARE THOMPSON To Help Fishing There's a new attraction for ocean anglers off the Orange County coast, in the form of two artificial reefs which are expected to improve sport fishing in the area, the Department of Fish and Game reported today. Costing over $5,000 each, the two reefs have been placed more than a mile offshore in about 60 feet of water a short distance up the coast from the mouth of the Santa Ana River. The project was financed by Orange County fish and game fine money, with the DFG selecting the sites, handling the permits and supervising construction. Set about a quarter of a mile apart, each of the reefs consists of 1,000 tons of quarry rock set in separate piles 100 feet in diameter and 100 feet apart. Two orange-and-white buoys, with "Artificial Fishing Reef" printed on them, mark the outer limits of the reefs. The two buoys are set about 700 feet apart, and any angler fishing between them will be on or between the reefs, where fishing should be good.
