The loss put the Bucs' conference record at 1-20. Fullerton in now 2-1. A lack of baskets in the first six minutes proved an obstacle the Pirates could not overcome during the remainder of the contest. With 13 minutes remaining in the first half, the Pirates scored their first field goal. Fullerton was shaky for the opening minutes, but met the problem earlier than did the Bucs. Led by forward Paul Ellsworth, the Hornets took a commanding 34-22 halftime lead. Pirate guard Leon Hamilton sparked the Bucs in the second half, but OCC couldn't get any closer than four points. With three minutes to go, the Hornets went into a stall to lead. BOX SCROLL O. ANAHEIM GAZETTE Sports NEWS 4—The Anaheim Gazette Thursday, January 16, 1964 ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Tilapia Brought Into California of its kind in the nation, second only to the annual NHRA National Championship Drag Races held at Indianapolis each Labor Day weekend, according to Parks. Entries are limited to 500 cars which will compete in 71 classes, including fuel - burning dragsters. National speed and elapsed time record attempts will be made in both gas and fuel categories, with fierce competition forecast for the prized top eliminator titles in both divisions. Among the most popular events are the top stock eliminator finals between the elite of the nation's drag racing stock cars. Other divisions include the competition and street eliminator events, with the latter pitted against factory experimental stock cars. Drag races are tests of acceleration from a standing start over a quarter-mile straight asphalt track, with cars timed Tilapia Brought Into California Tilapia Mossambica, a warmwater sport fish native to Africa and Asia Minor, has been brought to Southern California by the Department of Fish and Game. Eight males of the Zanzibar strain of Tilapia, plus 50 male and female fingerlings and six adult males of the Java strain were obtained last week from the Arizona Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit in Tucson and taken to the DFG's Chino Fisheries Base, where they will be experimentally bred and reared. The fish need the high temperatures of their native habitat, and at Chino they are being held in heated rooms, in tanks of water kept at a temperature of 73 degrees. Experiments have proved that a cross between females of the Java strain and males of the Zanzibar strain results in a hybrid generation of males only. The DFG plans to breed the two strains and study the male offspring, to estimate the Tila- pia's usefulness as a foraging fish, as a game fish and as control for aquatic plants and midge larvae. This ultimately involves stocking the males in one more carefully selected warmwater lakes to see if the hold-promise for improving fishing in Southern California. The fish are not likely to survive winter temperatures, but the DFG cannot be sure until a experiment is made. Tilapia is reputedly a cious, white - meated eati fish, grows fast, and is readily caught on flies or worms. A thority to import the Tilapia was granted by the Californi Fish and Game Commission its November 12 meeting in San Diego. GIFTWARE—GLASSWARE TOYS—STATIONERY OVER 50,000 ITEMS W 139 W.
