Loara High Sports
By STEVE MILNER
For the Saxons of Loara this season, 7-6 meant Orange League victories. This connotation has changed, however, for Friday night the Valencia Tigers edged the Saxons 7-6 at La Palma Stadium.
The Game left coach Herb Hill's Saxons with a 2-3 league record and a 3-4 season mark.
The Tigers hold a 3-1-1 league record.
The Tigers were the first team to score on the Saxons this season in the first half.
The score came with less than five minutes left in the first half when Julio Ybarra snatched down a 15 yard TD yard aerial from Valencia quarterback Jesse Salazar. The score, coming on a fourth-and-seven situation was added to by George Romero's kick for the conversion and Valencia 7-0 lead.
Saxons End Drive With Fumble
With Dale Winterberg calling signals, the Saxons drove 50 yards to a first down on the Valencia 5 yard line.
With a minute and 37 seconds left to play in the third period, Winters fumbled to the Tigers on a bad handoff.
Taking possession on their own 5 yard stripe, Valencia was able to drive the fantastic distance of one yard to their 6.
Though held once, the Saxons were not to be denied twice.

A recent survey by Planning Research Corporation of Los Angeles revealed that bowling is the number one participant sport in the metropolitan Los Angeles area, including Fernando Valley, Orange County and Long Beach. The survey, after interviews with thousands of families, revealed that 33.4 per cent of those questioned participate in bowling, followed by fishing, 32.1, camping, 22.6, golf, 15.3, and hunting, 14.2.
That bowling should hold such high popularity in the greater Los Angeles area is quite interesting when you consider the number of varied and popular sports available to the population in this area, including such pastimes as boating, surfing, skin diving, swimming, roller skating and ice skating.
Spectator sports attract a great number of the population in the Los Angeles area and consume quite a bit of the recreation dollar. CRYSTAL BALL
By DOUGLAS HUFF
Somebody over at Fullerton JC must not like my predictions.
A couple of weeks ago while my "57 bomb" was parked in the JC lot unattended someone put a nice crease in the right front door panel, scrapping all the paint off with it.
After some of the comments we've heard from there about our accurate predictions of Hornet loses, it must have been some disgruntaled Crystal Ball reader.
We reached this conclusion since we must have been hit fairly hard and no name or address was left for us to contact the culprit.
But let us now look in on the grid games of last weekend. Seems we didn't do so bad as the week before. As you recall the weekend before last we lost three. However this last weekend we lost but two — Anaheim and Loara.
This brings our season average up a point to 75 per cent,
lencia, it could go either way. It did — the wrong way. Valencia won 7-6. This week however it will be a different story. La Quint has never won a game and haven't got much chance this week either to break their unblemished record. LOARA by 29.
MAGNOLIA vs La Habra (Crestview League), Friday evening at La Palma Stadium. The Sentinels scored a convincing 21-7 victory against Sunny Hills last Friday to retain their first place tie with crosstown rival Savanna and it seems a sure thing they'll do it again this week. MAGNOLIA by 14.
SAVANNA at Tustin (Crestview League), Friday evening. Savanna managed to top Santiago last week 6-0. This means they're still tied for first with Crosstown rival Magnolia and from here it looks like who goes to CIF will be determined in a couple weeks when both schools meet for the season finale. Meantime SAVANNA by 18.

But let us now look in on the grid games of last weekend. Seems we didn't do so bad as the week before. As you recall the weekend before last we lost three. Howver this last week-end we lost but two — Anaheim and Loara.
This brings our season average up a point to 75 per cent, which is also the per centage we hit last weekend.
Now for a look at this weekends local grid games:
ANAHEIM vs Rancho Alamitos (Sunset League), Saturday evening, La Palma Stadium After a 20-0 pasting by Fullerton last week the Colonists are now in a four way tie for second spot along with Rancho. Seems the major reason for the last two weeks pastings is the loss of Dick Hough, currently out with a dislocated finger and not expected to play this week either. This in effect makes Anaheim a dislocated team. So saying RANCHO by Seven.
LOARA AT La Quintes (Orange League), Friday evening, Garden Grove High Schol Field. As we said last week when the Saxons tackled Va-thing they'll do it again this week.
SERVITE at Cantwell, (Angeles League) Servite look good as they romped to a 19-12 victory over Cathedral last weekend and ought to hit the winning side of the ledger this week too. As the season now stands Servite has lost only to Mater Dei. SERVITE by SIX.
WESTERN at Fullerton (Sunset League), Friday Evening. This is the game of the week. Western and Fullerton are tied at the top. For the Pioneers its do or die tomorrow night, winner takes first and on to CIF its hoped. The Pioneers scored a tremendous victory over Costa Mesa last week, 41-0, playing their JayVees the last three quarters. In all a total of 56 boys suited up and played. Things look good this week too but watch for the upset. WESTERN by SIX.
