Safety Chairman Forew New Minimum Age fo Recommendations resulting from the recent Governor's Conference on Traffic Safety are expected to spearhead a movement to raise the minimum age limit of licensed drivers to 18 years, according to Mrs. J. B. Mills, San Bruno, who is safety chairman of the California Congress of Parent Teachers, and a representative to the Conference. To prepare for such an eventality, which would require legislative action to change the present law, Mrs. Mills believes that an examination of the issue be made at the meeting of the Board of Managers of the Congress of Parents and Teachers when it convenes Nov. 13-14 With The PTA Fourth District PTA will hold its Nov. 14 meeting at the McGaugh Intermediate school, Bay and Bolsa Aves.; Seal Beach, with Huntington Union Council acting as hostess. Registration at 9 a.m. will be taken by Mrs. James Marsh with a call to order by Mrs. Harold Sprague. Fourth District president at 9:30 a.m. The Inspirational will be given by Mrs. Frederick Schrock and the Pledge of Allegiance by Mrs. Howard Sutherland. Max Dressler, superintendent of the Seal Beach School District will welcome the group. After a short business meeting musical entertainment will be provided by the McGaugh Intermediate school under the direction of Mr. Wash. should it be to enforce the dress code — the home or the school? Do we over emphasize sports and not give enough recognition to our honor students? Does our academic climate challenge the capable girl as much as the capable boy — or should it? Could our schools do more to prepare our youth to meet industry's constantly changing needs? On the following morning, Nov. 15, starting at 9:30 a.m. the California Congress of Parents and Teachers will hold a workshop conference for the Southern California area. Attending the conference, to be held in Los Angeles at the C.C.P.T. state office, 930 Georgia St. and at the First Methodist Church in downtown Los Angeles, will be Southern California District officers, directors, and chairman who will meet with their state counterparts for the workshop. District chairman and officers will bring back to their Councils what they had learned from their State counterpart chairman who in turn will pass the information on to their individual association chairman. Approximately 50 will be attending from Fourth District. CONFERENCE How do parents and teachers feel about each others roll in PTA? Are "pink slips" used properly and effectively? Should counsellors be the one to discipline students? Would a vocational high school could our schools do more to prepare our youth to meet industry's constantly changing needs? IN BUENA PARK These are some of the questions to be asked as a springboard for discussion at a parent-teacher conference, co-sponsored by the Anaheim Secondary Teachers Association and the Anaheim Secondary PTA Council, to be held at Crescent Junior High, 8200 Crescent, Buena Park, on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Patterning Anaheims conference after the one held annually in Los Angeles, a steering committee, consisting of Mrs. Joe Brown, Anaheim Secondary Council PTA president; Mrs. Russell Renner, parent education chairman of Secondary Council; Charles Darringron, counsellor at Trident Junior High and president at that time of ASTA; and Ron Hubert, a teacher at Crescent Junior High and the public relations director of ASTA. Since ASTA's annual election of officers, the new president, Lee Hanson, a teacher at Anaheim High School has continued where Darrington left off. After many meetings and discussions held in both organizations, the time and place was finally set. Five teachers and five PTA members will be attending from each of the five senior highs and ten junior highs in the AUHSD. Positively no administrators will be allowed to attend, with the attendance limitation strictly enforced. Buzz Sessions Opening the conference will be a flag ceremony, an invocation and a two minute welcome made by Mrs. Joe Brown and Hanson with the possibility of Paul Cook, superintendent of the AUHSD, present to welcome the group. Attendants will then be assigned to various buzz sessions with no two people, either teacher or parent sitting in on the same session from the same school. Ross Show Slated At Memorial Park The fifth annual Thanksgiving Rose Show will be held Saturday and Sunday, in the Pag-eant of Roses Garden at Rose Hills Memorial Park. The show, which is expected to draw nearly 1,000 cut flower and rose arrangements entries, is co-sponsored by Rose Hills and the American Rose Society’s Pacific Southwest District. There is no entry or admission fee and free parking is available. The garden, an official American Rose Society display and test garden containing thousands of rose bushes of 356 varieties, is open to the public without charge daily during daylight hours throughout the year. Entries should be delivered to the garden between 7 and 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Following the judging, the show will be open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. that day and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
