She Greets Celebrities, But Refuses to Name Favorites
In its three years of existence, the Charter House Hotel at Anaheim has had the great and near great as its guests, with "Miss Dorothy" as hostess.
Many of the entertainment world’s brightest stars have visited the Anaheim hotel. All have been greeted and attended by Dorothy Zirtzman, better known as "Miss Dorothy", head hostess at the Charter House.
Combining grace, wit and native California charm — Dorothy has a way of making all guests at the hotel's elegant Rib Room Restaurant feel like "visiting celebrities".
Miss Dorothy, with 11 years of hostess experience, refused to name her favorite Hollywood star, but said she enjoyed meeting Johnny Mathis at a recent party in the hotel's Rainbow Room.
"Barry Sullyan is awfully nice", she added, "and so is Hugh O'Brien — then there are great people like Jerry Colona and George Gobel who like to make people laugh, even during dining hours."
Some of the stars go unnoticed by people sitting at adjoining tables, she said. "Others you can't help but notice — such as Jayne Mansfield."
Miss Dorothy is somewhat of a notable personality herself, rich in deep Spanish family heritage. Her ancestors, the Chevez family and the Santa Maria family are among the most colorful in Caifernia's history.
Julian Chavez was a Los Angeles City Councilman in 1874 one of the original owners of Chavez Ravine. The Santa Maria family owned the land on which the City of Santa Maria was built.
Miss Dorothy likes to talk about her families' background. During her leisure hours, she also likes to swim — and enjoys knitting. She does her knitting in front of the TV set, watching many of the stars that she knows personally.
Bethel Plans Hayride Oct. 19

Preceeding the activity, the girls have planned a weinie roast, with each family bringing its own sweeners and Bethel No. 5 supplying the rest of the informal meal.
Members and their families who are planning to attend are reminded to "dress up" in costumes appropriate to the Hallowe'en season, and meet at Irvine Park at 6 p.m.
Other events planned for the evening are a scavanger hunt, games and family entertainment.

Sonic Boom
Loss Replaced
By LOUISE METEER
Women's Editor
The Air Force does care about those sonic booms.
If you don't believe it, just ask Mrs. Frances M. Garvey.
Mrs. Garvey was smoking a cigarette one day last spring when a sonic boom broke it right in two. Of course, it was no good after that. So she decided just to send it to the Air Force with a complaint.
She now is in receipt of impressive letters from Headquarters, 22nd Bombardment Wing, United Air Force, March Air Force Base; from the Department of the Air Force, Washington; and a complete information sheet on the sonic boom.
The first letter came from claims officer Henry J. Steenstra Jr., 1st Lt. USAF, offering to give her every assistance if she desired to present a formal claim.
Consternation
Steenstra told Mrs. Garvey that upon receipt of her letter "great consternation arose as to how to handle the matter."
"No doubt," he said, "the simplest procedure would be for the Air Force to forward to you one Parliament cigarette. However, our finance officer doesn't smoke Parliaments and so does not stock them."
"Numerous other problems such as depreciation based on date of purchase, proof of ownership and proof that it was the sonic boom rather than a personal nervous habit that caused the damage, the exact amount of the claim, etc., have caused further consternation."
Included with the letter were three copies of Standard Form 95, to be signed by both husband and wife and returned.
O'Hara Writes
Lieutenant Colonel O'Hara USAF, Chief, Special Events Branch Community Relations Division Office of Information, wrote too. He offered as an excuse for tardy reply to her letter from Washington the fact that he had been unable to locate a Parliament cigarette.
"Fortunately", he said, "I was able to find one which is enclosed. I would use this one."

LIEUTENANT COLONEL O'Hara

wrote too. He offered as an excuse for tardy reply to her letter from Washington the fact that he had been unable to locate a Parliament cigarette.
"Fortunately", he said, "I was able to find one which is enclosed. (I would use this one in an emergency only. It might be loaded)."
The cigarette he sent Mrs Garvey was reinforced with Scotch tape. A hand-written note said: "This one should hold up very well."
He sent her under separate cover a picture of a B-58 aircraft, and said: "In the light of some of the letters we received, your letter was a welcome relief and was the source of much amusement."
Since she evoked the concern of the Air Force, Mrs. Garvey has practically given up smoking.
For all that, she says, every time she reads her letters, smoke gets in her eyes!
