Group's Aid to Crippled Limited 'Strictly to Oran
By GEORGIANNA JOHNSEN
"He who helps a child serves humanity."
With this as its slogan, the Crippled Children's Relief Association of Orange County, Inc. has begun another tireless year dedicated to finding ways to help the physical handicapped in this area.
The association is unique in several ways.
Its headquarters are in Anaheim, although chapters are located in Brea, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Orange, Placentia, Santa Ana, San Juan Capistrano, Tustin and Yorba Linda. It is strictly an Orange County organization without state or national affiliation.
Use Funds Locally
All funds which are raised in the county are kept here to be applied to the needs of local residents. This amounts to about $15,000 per year which is spent for the medical and surgical needs of handicapped children, or furnishing them with artificial limbs or other prosthetic devices.

president of the Orange County Lutheran Hospital Association and pastor of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Buena Park, expressed himself:
"The news that Martin Luther Hospital is being purchased by the Lutherans is truly good news to all Lutherans of Orange County. It will give our Association tremendous incentive to rally new support of our hospital."

All that's left of the outmoded "Momma-Poppa" operations is the "Tender Loving Care."
Today's new facilities are modern, up to date tools for supplying the needs of the patient as exemplified by New Fountain Convalescent Hospital.
The Convalescent Hospital has become an accepted and integral part of the Community in the last several years.
Basic changes in population, way of life and protective laws are making the long-term modern facility increasingly important.
Considering todays cost of hospital care, the Convalescent Hospital with its lower rate, fills a real Community need in chronic, convalescing and terminal cases.

President of the organization is Miss E. Kate Rae, who has been an Anaheim resident since 1898, and has held the presidency of the association since 1935.
Headquarters
Her home at 224 E. Broadway has been donated for use as the headquarters of the association. Miss Rae has lived there for many years.
The cases cared for by the group are those known as "borderline cases", persons who are not eligible for treatment by county agencies and yet not able to financially care for themselves.
The work is sustained by voluntary contributions from friends, organizations, and foundations.
Funds, Equipment
The association's services are twofold: providing equipment and furnishing funds on either a gift or interest-free loan basis to those who need it and are not eligible for state or county aid.
Much of the equipment made available for these cases is jointly owned by the association, the Orange County Health Department, and the Orange County Chapter of the National Foundation for Trippled Children.
YOUNG AT NINETY-ONE — Mrs. Nora E. Cowan celebrated her 91st birthday this week, a feat she attributes to being a "hard worker all my life." She was born near Allendale, Missouri in 1872. Three brothers and a sister are all deceased. She moved with her family to Iowa when she was 10 years old. She graduated from Iowa Normal High and taught school for a few years, marrying in 1892, she was later widowed. In 1923 she moved to Anaheim and lives with her daughter, Mrs. Vera F. Cowan and the widow of her brother, Mrs. Florence Mitchell now 88, at 118 N. Helena. An open house maked her birthday. Mrs. Cowan is reading the latest issue of the Anaheim Gazette while sitting in her favorite rocking chair in the picture above. The Gazette is only two years older than Mrs. Cowan and will note its 93rd birthday on Oct. 29.
