A REAL MISS ANAHEIM — Joan Peek, who for all but seven days of her life has been a native daughter of Anaheim, has entered the Miss California Contest. From all appear- Joan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Peek, 512 North Rose. From all appearances she doesn't need the Tiki to bolster her fortunes. She seeks, as the first step, the title of Miss Anaheim, which will be awarded May 24 in judging at the Charter House. Joan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Peek, 512 North Rose. She is a PE major at Long Beach State College and works for the Anaheim Park and Recreation Department in her free moments. Joan was active in student government and on the drill team of Anaheim High School before her graduation. Local Girl Might Be Miss Universe Forty beautiful girls will be bidding for the title of Miss California and a chance for the Miss Universe crown during the June 17-22 Miss California Beauty Pageant in Los Angeles — and one of these girls will be Miss Anaheim. Any Orange County girl with the right face, the right figure and a little bit of luck has a chance to win the state title and be whisked away to Miami Beach for the July 10-22 Miss Universe contest. There is no cost, and entry forms can be obtained at the Harry Conover Training Center, 1608 West Chapman in Orange, Girls eyeing movie or television fame are urged to take advantage of the Miss Anaheim contest possibilities. According to Dr. Leonard Stallcup, president of the California Beauty Pageant, numerous TV and radio appearances will be made by contestants during the pageant period. The winner of the Miss Anaheim contest will wide telecast on the final night of judging. Stallcup said, "Over 100,000 persons watched our final telecast last year." Miss Anaheim will be picked on Friday evening, May 24, at the Charger House Hotel. Judging will be done solely on beauty—talent will not be taken into consideration. Contestants must have been born prior to July 1, 1945 and after July 1, 1939; must have resided in California for at least six months and be a U.S. citizen. County GOP Unit Formed A new Orange County Republican organization has been formed to enable interested Republicans to keep informed on legislative activities, to hear outstanding personalities present the broad range of viewpoints held by various members of the party and to become active in precinct work, candidate research or other party work of interest to them. Formation of the Republican Associates of Orange County was announced today by J. S. Fluor, Santa Ana who was elected chairman by the 15-man Board of Governors named to direct activities of the new group. Permanent headquarters have not yet been established, Fluor said, but the Association has temporary quarters at Republican Central Committee offices at 1318 North Grand in Santa Ana. The first meeting of the entire membership is planned for June, when a Republican of national importance will speak. The organization will be patterned after the highly-successful Republican Associate organizations in Los Angeles and San Diego counties, Fluor added, and the aim is to attain a membership of Scout Honor Awards Giver In Troop 72 By MARY ANN LEUENBERG Mike Wraight, 15 was given Boy Scouts of America high honor by Judge Claude M. The tournament, sanctioned by the Anaheim Park and Recreation Department, is open to anyone who is either a resident of the Anaheim Union High School District or a member of the Anaheim Tennis Club. Play this year will be offered in Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles, Junior Boy's and Girl's Singles in all age divisions, and Mixed Doubles. Bosworth, 1157 Casa Grande, Anaheim, Calif., recently was assigned to the 82d Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C. A paratrooper in the division, Bosworth entered the Army in June, 1962, completed basic training at Fort Ord, Calif., and was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga., before his assignment to Fort Bragg. Haughton. Patterson will address more than 2000 Southern California business executives, community leaders, and Junior Achievement teen-agers expected to attend the ninth annual JA event at the Hollywood Paladium, noted Haughton who is also president of Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. At the banquet, scholarships and other awards will be presented to the teen-age executives of the outstanding Junior Achievement companies. Tribute will also be paid to the 496 adults serving as advisers. During the past nine months, 2550 students from 76 Southern California schools formed and operated 166 Junior Achievement companies.
