Over 200 Anaheim residents are receiving Medical Self - Help class assignment notices this week, according to Paul L. Hayes, Anaheim civil defense coordinator. Hayes said seven classes will start during this week bringing the total classes under way to eleven.
Additional classes are already filled and will be announced as soon as instructor assignments are made. "Our biggest problem at the moment," Hayes said, "is to keep the supply of instructors up with the enrollments coming in from citizens, but we want students to continue enrolling. This determines our needs for instructors and class assignments."
Preparations are under way for a new instructors course to begin within the next two weeks, with some 35 registered nurses, Red Cross First Aid Instructors, teachers and other qualified people enrolled. Additional instructor courses will be held as often as possible in order to meet the demand for more student classes.
Classes will be available at five Anaheim junior high schools, and the course will run one night per for nine weeks. A few daytime classes may be started if demand is high enough. "We have had great interest by the students, and have had excellent support from instructors from the Nuclear, Biological and Chemical School at El Toro Marine Base." Hayes said.
