(NEXT TO DISNEYLAND) ANAHEIM WHAT NEW WONDER WILL DO THIS MISS’S DISHES …in the all-electric future? Just a few years from now, when this young lady has a family of her own, she may be doing the dinner dishes with an ultrasonic dishwasher. And cleaning up after family gatherings, bridge luncheons and birthday parties won't be an ordeal either. Ultrasonic waves, moving faster than the speed of sound, will "wash" mountains of dishes and utensils in a matter of seconds. While the electric industry is pioneering tomorrow's work-saving appliances, it is also continuing to lead the research to find new sources of electricity. And logically so. Electricity is our business. In the future, you'll be hearing more from Edison about new ways of producing electricity from such things as nuclear energy, fuel cells, thermionic conversion and other developments in research. Edison’s promise is this: as new ideas in modern electric living come along, we'll continue to bring you the abundant, low cost electricity you'll need to enjoy them. Veteran Loans Hit $2 Billion The famed Cal-Vet program has exceeded the two billion dollar mark in the total of farm and home loans made to California veterans since the program began in 1921. California's Director of Veterans Affairs, Joseph M. Farber, announced that as of the end of February, the totals stood at $2,006,240,000 distributed among 202,623 loans. "All this money was made available through the Cal-Vet bonds authorized by the people of California," said Farber. A total of 131,864 of these loans was either in force or in escrow at the end of February representing an investment of $1,342,403,000. During the month of February when the two billion dollar mark was passed, the Division of Farm and Home Purchases reported that 750 loans were approved or in escrow according to Farber. Cite Veteran Burial Rights Any deceased veteran of war-time or peacetime service, whose last period of service terminated honorably, is eligible for burial in any national cemetery in which grave space is available. Mort Webster, manager of VA's Southern California regional office; said today. The spouse, widow or widower of an eligible veteran may be buried in the same grave or in an adjoining grave if space is available. The spouse, widow or widower of an eligible veteran may be buried in the same grave or in an adjoining grave if space is available. A minor child of the veteran may also be buried in a national cemetery in the same grave in which either parent has been interred. Should the spouse or child die before the veteran, the veteran must sign a paper stating his intention to be buried in the national cemetery before the spouse or child can be buried there. At the time of the death of a veteran, spouse or child eligible for burial in a national cemetery, the mortician or person responsible for funeral arrangements should request interment directly from the superintendent of the national cemetery. There is no charge for the gravesite in a national cemetery, or for the opening or closing of the grave therein. Webster said. CONE-O'CONNOR MORTUARY 211 NORTH LEMON STREET, ANAHEIM KE 5-3209 SCE Southern California Edison Water Re-Use Forecast by Space Device A Space Science water conversion invention may take that old "fater over the dam" expression used to describe the irretrievably lost and send it along with its fellow castaway cliche — "down the drain." In fact, chemists at Aerojet General Corporation claim the new device will mean that 90 per cent of the water now discarded by most communities can be saved, giving the community an almost permanent water supply. It holds promise of solving one of the most serious natural resources problems confronting the nation today, the lack of adequate water to meet the demands of an ever rising population. Heart of the system is a series of membranes, made of a plastir-like material, which filter out dissolved contaminants in water and return it purified, sterile and ready for reuse. Thus, instead of a community needing a 100 per cent new supply of water each day, 90 per cent of it would stay in the community and only 10 per cent of the previous "new water" draw would be needed. The 10 per cent represents water destroyed, consumed, or otherwise lost such as that evaporated, used for irrigation or lawns, or used in making industrial products, soap, paper, bleaches and the like.
