Los Alamitos Signs to Hold Elephant Race
Elephant racing at Los Alamitos Race Track has taken another step toward reality as representatives of Orange State College journeyed to the quarter-porse track to sign a contract for the May 10 event. Headed by Bapu Mahout Ben Wade, Elephant Racing Club president, Fullerton, members of the group then traveled to Hollywood to meet with Jerry Hopkins, production and talent coordinator for Steve Allen Productions, to negotiate a TV appearance. A date has not yet been set, however, Wade stated.
Accompanying Wade to Los Alamitos were Raynolds Johnson, director of public relations; Ronald Bristow, Associate Dean of Students; Activities; Carol Steis, Santa Ana, homecoming queen; Tom Cox, Costa Mesa, ERC business manager; and David Brooks, Placentia, Student News Bureau director. Johnson, Miss Steis and Wade made the trip to Hollywood.
In addition to the elephant race, the Junior Class will provide the "Day of the Titan" activities and an all-college dance that evening.
