"All of the Teen Club members are looking forward to the picnic at Irvine Park on April 6 and to the swimming party and other activities scheduled during Easter vacation," said Vernon Stubblefield, Teen Club advisor and teacher at Dale Junior High. Hay rides, ice skating and picnics are only a few of the fun activities Teen Club members enjoy in the program sponsored by the Anaheim Parks and Recreation Department, he added. "When is the next one?" is the standing question of the club members, said Stubblefield, who has been a teen club advisor for three years. Beside having fun activities, club members enjoy assisting with projects such as collecting canned goods for charity and will be helping park recreation leaders with the Easter egg hunts planned for the small children during Easter vacation. Club at Each School Edward Alfaro, principal recreation leader, explained that each of the Anaheim Junior High Schools has clubs which are divided by grades. Club at Each School Edward Alfaro, principal recreation leader, explained that each of the Anaheim Junior High Schools has clubs which are divided by grades. Alfaro, head of the language department at Western High School, started the Teen Clubs three years ago at Dale Junior High with 3 members. He has seen an expanied program which now has 2,200 students enrolled in Anaheim Teen Age Clubs. “Club advisers are also teachers of the club members and their fore can go from an education situation to a recreational area.” Alfaro said. “Teachers set wholesome example and exert steadying influence on the members through association.” Miss Patricia Nelson, adviser from Dale Junior High School said, “We ask members to sugest what they would like to do for club activities and decide who is better for the group. They have liked trips to Disneyland, Pacific Ocean Park and planned activinight for volley ball, ping-pong and tennis. “Girls are more socially mined than boys at this age and our activities offer them a chance to develop social skills and learn how to act in community groups,” she said. Other fun activities the cluplan are one-day mountain trip, horseback riding, and swimming parties. Miss Nelson aid. Several members have told her that they have more fun going with a group their own age on some of the trips than they do when their paents take them. Each grade has a president, vice president and secretary whiadvisors handle money for transportation or refreshments. Teen Center Busy Miss Veeann Herbst supervises Teen Center of Anaheim which is located at Spencer House where dances are held on Friday and Saturday nights from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. To join Teen Center, students pay 50 cents membership fee. Admission to dances are free unless a band plays which charges for the entertainment. Then each member pays a 25 cents admission charge. Often high school combo's come in so they can have an opportunity to perform. Miss Herbst added that parents are required to provide transportation to and from Spencer house for their children and the children are not permitted to leave the building during the activities. Junior high school membership is approximately 500 and senior high, 150. On Friday nights most members are from Brookhurst Junior High and on Saturday nights, from Dale. A few come from Trident, Sycamore and Ball schools, also, she said. "We would like to have more and will have more room when the patio is completed, Miss Herbst said. The cost of the patio which is to be built is being paid for in part by the teenagers who voted $1,200 from the profit made on the sale of candy bars and pop at their dances.
