SHOP Downtown STORES 4 — ANAHEIM GAZETTE ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Wednesday, March 13, 1962 Concerts Draw To Full House A capacity audience is predicted for the fourth concert of the Orange County Symphony Orchestra, Wednesday evening, March 20, in Fullerton, High School auditorium, by Roger Holden of South Laguna, association president at the March meeting of the executive committee in Tamasha Country Club, Anaheim. "Growth of our Orange County Symphony has been unpreceddented and public acceptance unparalleled," Holden remarked in reviewing the association's first six months of corporate existence. "In half a year we have come as far as many of our contemporaries in half a decade. It brings to mind Mark Twain's comment that 'California has a driving, vigorous, restless population that gives it a name for getting up astounding enterprises and rushing them' through with magnificent dash and daring." Sacramento Paychecks Big Enough For Trading on $100 Status Symbol The $100 bill has apparently become the latest status symbol, at least for a few days immediately following payday. The origins of the growing popularity of Ben Franklin notes are unknown, but the increased demand for the big bills is a matter of record in the office of State Treasurer Bert A. Betts. Betts said today that the State Treasury cashier’s window in the Capitol has had to stock $100 bills in greater supply during the past six months, and frequently of late the requests for century notes” have run far beyond the supply on hand. Several Sacramento banks have also reported increased circulation of large bills. The State Treasury is authorized to cash any or all state warrants. The law does not permit cashing of personal checks, or for that matter any check not drawn on the State Treasurer. In a normal month the cashier will average $120,000 in cashed warrants. As might be expected, the figure is higher during months the State Legislature is in session. During sessions the complement of Capitol personnel is substantially greater, with the legislators themselves, their staff members and other legislative employees, on the job. No record is kept of who asks for $100 bills, but the totals indicate that they are not all from the legislative branch. It is true that in January — a session month — the cashier paid out 117 $100’s. ARMY-NAVY GOODS • HARDWARE • CAMPING WILLIAMS Co. ARMY-NAVY SURPLUS 112 E. Commonwealth Ave. DOWNTOWN FULLERTON 130 E.
