Anaheim Physicians Direct Disaster Class
Anaheim's Medical Self-Help Program goes on every last night with its first class for instructors at Trident Jr. High School at 7:30 p.m. Clashes will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for four weeks.
Some 50 registered nurses, health education instructors, teachers, Red Cross First Aid Instructors, ministers and other qualified volunteers signed up for the sixteen hour, four week course.
Instructor-training by a faculty of over 30 Anaheim physicians and surgeons under the leadership of Drs. John McBurney and Ernest Mack is the core of the course.
Upon completion of the course, a team of "instructor-trainers" will be named from among the graduates. While all instructors may participate in presenting the Medical Self-Help course to the public, this team will be responsible primarily for training additional instructors under the supervision of the medical faculty.
Enrollments are now open to the public for students for the regular courses which will begin in late February. Instruction will be given at selected high schools and junior high schools throughout Anaheim.
Initially, the course will be given only at evening sessions. Depending upon the demand by students and availability of instructors, daytime classes may be scheduled at a later date.
Medical Self-Help is designed to train at least one adult member of each family in the care of an ill or wounded person under extreme disaster conditions, when medical help may not be available for a period of days or even weeks.
The course was developed by the U.S. Public Health Service, in cooperation with the American Medical Association, the American National Red Cross, and other highly competent authorities.

WHAT'S DOING
Ever wonder how the Long Distance Operator takes down information when you place a call with her? She uses a special electrographic pencil to record the needed information on a printed card. With this method the operator can do it faster if you give her the information in this order: (1) Area code and number you're calling; (2) any special instructions; and (3), when she asks, your own number. This way it's possible to start your call right after step (1) and can save time in completing your operator handled calls.
Question: Is a telephone animal, vegetable or mineral? Answer: All three are contained in the materials from which telephones are made.

Today's high school science students have a wealth of interesting new things to learn about. For these future scientists, the Bell System has developed special teaching aids—kits of demonstration equipment, films and text by leading Bell Labs scientists. They bring to life subjects like wave behavior (shown here), magnetism and solar energy, and may be made available to high school science departments through your telephone business office.

What do the millions of out-of-state tourists think of Southern California, its freeways, cities, orange groves, beaches, climate?

Attending the meeting will be Orange County tourist leaders.

THE DIFFERENCE ISN’T HAY
It’s extra dollars for you!
The 1.3% difference between 4.8% and 3½% may seem small, but it’s really a whale of difference. 4.8% is over 37% greater than 3½%. Or, put it this way: your regular bank savings account earning $100 annual interest at 3½%, could be earning $137.00 at First Federal’s 4.8% rate. And First Federal’s perfect dividend record stretches all the way back to 1925. That’s not hay!
Safety for savings should be your number one consideration, of course. It’s our number one objective, too. That’s why assets over $125,000,000 stand behind your savings here. And accounts are insured by the Federal Savings & Loan Insurance Corporation—a permanent agency of the U.S. Government.
