OCC Classroom Moves Outdoors

Student with a square rules angle for a saw cut. Agent uses a spirit level as a stud is truly vertical. Agent translates a detail draw into wood and nails. When completed the model will feature combined gas electric kitchen built - ins, to - wall carpeting, com-insulation, and bathroom tiling of fiberglass with plas-lays.
Heating will come from a forced air unit with an air return system. The house will be cooled with a refrigerated air conditioning unit.
Sound Proof Soundproof acoustic ceiling material will be used throughout the house. One room will be completely soundproofed as a "haven". Simonds said.
Exterior design of the house is distinctive. A "tiki" roof, to be built under the regular shake roof, is featured.
Plans call for aluminum window casing, double main entry doors of wrought iron and sliding doors at various locations in the house.
When the house is completed in 1965, its usefulness as a "classroom" will have come to an end. The house will be moved to a public place for display, then will be sold to the highest bidder.
What good is all this sawing, hammering, plastering and plumbing to the construction student?
Can Enter Trade Simonds said, "When the construction technology student graduates he can enter the carpentry trade as an advanced apprentice — with all his time at OCC applying toward his standing as a journeyman. Most OCC graduates advance quickly to become foremen and construction superintendents.
"After graduation construction students usually earn $4 per hour the first day on the job." Simonds added.
At OCC, however, it isn't all hammer and nails on the construction project.
Five days per week construction students receive an hour and 15 - minute lecture. The topic may be framing, finishing, foundations, field layout, roof framing, cabinet making, stair building, housing research, new building materials, and new building techniques.
