Hospital Guild Sets Race Day
St. Joseph Hospital Guild will sponsor a Race Day at Los Alamites Race Course Wednesday, Dec. 5, the proceeds to be used toward the purchase of a Cobalt 60 Deep Therapy Unit for use in the treatment of cancer. Both the new St. Joseph Hospital and the Orange County Children's Hospital, rapidly nearing completion at the Orange site, will have access to the machine, the first of its type to be available locally.
Mrs. Robert Farrow of Garden Grove, chairman of Race Day, announces that the tickets, available through guild members or at the gate, will admit purchasers to all sections of the grandstand, the clubhouse, and the dancing party to follow the afternoon's races.
Light refreshments will be served. Those who wish transportation to the track may telephone the guild office at KE 8-8724 for shuttle bus service information.
Mrs. Frank Miller of Anaheim has been assisting Mrs. Farrow with ticket sales and assisting in publicity.
A highlight of the afternoon will be the awarding of the St. Joseph Hospital Guild trophy to the winner of the Eighth Race; this presentation will be made by a "mystery guest" celebrity.
Mrs. Kendall Dills of Garden Grove is hostess chairman and arrangements for entertainment are under the direction of Mrs. Samuel Hurwitz of Santa Ana.
Piano Teachers Set Seminar for Friday
Mrs. Caletta Bertrand, expert in the field of piano keyboard instruction for pre-school children, will meet with the Piano Teachers of Orange County Friday in a seminar on keyboard instruction for pre-school children at the Betty Stockwell studio in Anaheim.

Teen Problem During CYO
Problems of modern teenage behavior will be discussed during the event missions for teenagers.
Mrs. Caletta Bertrand, expert in the field of piano keyboard instruction for pre-school children, will meet with the Piano Teachers of Orange County Friday in a seminar on keyboard instruction for pre-school children at the Betty Stockwell studio in Anaheim.
Along with her lecture, Mrs. Bertrand will demonstrate methods of developing the concepts of "The Three R's of Music" through a variety of visual aids and activities.
Local teachers who expect to be in attendance at the 1212 Maplewood, Anaheim, address include Rosemary Krass, Ruth Martens, Judy DeBolt, and Vi Brelje of Orange; Mary Lee Miller of Garden Grove; Barbara Shaw, Merle Valdez, and Alice Kimbrough of the beach area; Barbara DuShane, Ruth Salaets, and Betty Stockwell, who are teachers in Fullerton and Anaheim. Mrs. Bertrand, author of the book, "Keyboard Kadettes", is known throughout the Southland for her excellent work with young students. Her successful career has centered in the Woodland Hills and Studio City areas, as well as within the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music where Mrs. Bertrand has been a leader in the development of a musical program for the early beginner. She will describe the philosophy of group instruction through which the younger child more readily responds. However, Mrs. Bertrand's approach to the keyboard as a medium for musical expression is also designed for the individual student, and is used for school age children of the early grades, as well.

Teen Problems During CYO A
Problems of modern teenage will be discussed during the event missions for teenagers ducted by the Catholic Youth Organization in 17 parishes thougout the archdiocese Dec. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Sermons will deal with problems in matters of faith sound moral practice in daily lives, according to John P. Languille, CYO director.
Teenagers Invited
All teenagers, regardless of ligion, are invited to attend said. Dating, love, marriage reer and profession will among subjects on which mission priests will speak.

Slates Dinner
Members of the Anaheim YLI Institute 109 will have dinner at O'Garrity's Restaurant Monday evening followed by a meeting at Odd Fellows Hall. Mrs. George Milich of San Diego, grand president, will be special guest at the dinner and will make her official visit at the meeting.
Mrs. Louis Benner will be presiding officer for the visit. Initiation of new members will also be held at this meeting.
At a recent meeting presided over by Mrs. Bert Pasini, members heard a book review by Mrs. Billie Halloran of the Memorare Guild, Santa Ana.
Mrs. Ralph Pennelli, chairman of the recent fashion show, announced that a check covering the proceeds has been presented to St. Boniface Church for the building fund.
Mrs. Rose Mouch, chairman of rehabilitation of girls in Juvenile Hall, announced that progress is being made with the Christian training given the girls. She and her committee are making holy cards for the girls.
Members of the cord Rosary project are also making scrapbooks for hospitalized children, according to Mrs. Jerome McKenna, chairman.

Teachers Slate Meeting Today
Teachers of Special Education will meet at the Mattie Lou Maxwell school in Anaheim, at Magnolia and Orange, today at 3:30 p.m. to discuss the area of speech help for handicapped children.
The program is under the direction of Glenn Smith, consultant in speech for Orange County Schools. Speech teachers will display materials for use with the problems involved in listening, language, articulation and voice and the five senses and feelings. Books and records on the subject will also be shown.
Coffee will be served at 3:30 and the meeting will begin at 4. Parents as well as teachers are invited to attend.

A chorus of selected voices from churches throughout the entire County will present the Messiah by Handel at four thirty Sunday afternoon in the Chapman College auditorium in Orange according to G. Willard Bassett, general chairman for the Choral Conductors Guild, who are sponsoring the event. Dr. James McKelvey of Occidental College and former music head of Chapman, will conduct. Dr. Ronald Huntington will accompany the choir on the school pipe organ.
Solos include tenor Bressee Westmoreland of Garden Grove, director of music of the Hollywood Congregational church; Barbara Phillips, soprano, voice teacher at Fullerton's Orange State College and soloist at Los Angeles Immanuel Presbyterian church; Stephan Kemalyan, widely known concert singer and well known Santa Ana voice teacher, and contralto Julia Johns of Los Angeles Immanuel Presbyterian church.
The performance of the Messiah by combined Orange County choirs has become traditional for Advent Sunday performance and is a notable contribution by Orange County singers and participating Ministers to the true spirit of the Christmas season. The performance is without charge and the general public is cordially invited to attend.
'Messiah' To Be BIOLA Program
The 125-voice Oratorio Chorus of Biola College, accompanied by a 30-piece orchestra, will present a special performance of Handel's "The Messiah" Sunday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. in the Biola Campus Auditorium, La Mirada.
Professor Marvin McKissick, chairman of the Biola College Music Department, will conduct chorus and orchestra in this Dec. 8 has been set at the club's "Day at the Park Los Alamitos race track day is planned to supply profit made at the Septic The children's Christmas will be held Dec. 15 at the clubhouse. BIOLA PROGRAM
The 125-voice Oratorio Chorus of Biola College, accompanied by a 30-piece orchestra, will present a special performance of Handel's "The Messiah" Sunday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. in the Biola Campus Auditorium, La Mirada.
Professor Marvin McKissick, chairman of the Biola College Music Department, will conduct chorus and orchestra in this year's rendition of the famed oratorio.
Soloists Margaret Schaper, soprano, Julie Overseth, contralto, Howard Sutherland, tenor, and Earl Anderson bass, will participate in the afternoon's performance.

Junior Ebells Slate
December Activities
A holiday dance, a general meeting, a day at the races and a children's Christmas party have been slated as the main events for the month of December by the Junior Ebell Club.
The holiday dance will take place Dec. 1 at the Tamasha Club. Members and guests will be served lobster and steak dinners beginning at 8 p.m.
The general meeting is scheduled for Dec. 4 at 7:45 p.m. at the clubhouse. The music department will present a program of carols by "Les Enfants et Les Femmes," under the direction of Mrs. Lawrence Petersen. Accompanist will be Mrs. Philip Roseberry.
On the tea committee for the meeting will be: Mrs. Downing Exley, Mrs. William Fee, Mrs. Wesley Fronhardt, Mrs. Roger Gates, Mrs. James Godfrey, Miss Patricia Godfrey, Mrs. Robert Hager, Mrs. Robert Hales and Mrs. Jack Evans. New members will be initiated at this meeting.
Dec. 8 has been set aside for the club's "Day at the Races" at Los Alamitos race track. The day is planned to supplement the profit made at the Sept. 8 party.
The children's Christmas party will be held Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. at the clubhouse. The Chiquita Puppeteers will present the program which will also include songs by the children's choir. Frosty the Snowman will pass out gifts for Santa. On the committee the bookmobile for St. Joseph Hospital.
The drama section meets tonight at 8 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Joe Thompson, 725 N. Clamentine. The December meeting time and place will be announced at the general meeting.
Marie Osowski and Norma Payne are the new co-chairmen for mental health. They will continue to collect bathing suits, handbags, white gloves, jewelry and other items for Fairview Hospital.
No bridge games are scheduled for December. Welfare meetings have also been suspended until after the holidays.
