"We want the people of Orange County to take as much pride in their advantages as they do in Paris," he said. "We have one of the best musical groups in the country in our symphony orchestra. It should be regarded with pride." Replaces Roger Hope Holden, who is replacing Roger C. Hope as president of the orchestra, has a long record of achieving his goals. As a fund-raising consultant, he has managed campaigns totaling $45 million over a 27-year period for hospitals, schools, colleges, and charitable and philantropic organizations. He presently serves on the board of 10 civic and cultural organizations besides the symphony orchestra and plays an active part in all of them. Amherst Alumnus An alumnus of Amherst College, he is the only member of its current $36,000,000 capital funds campaign west of the Hudson river. The list of organizations is a long one. Holden belongs to the Advisory Board to the Executive Council of the Orange Empire Council of Boy Scouts; Board of Directors, South Coast Hospital; Vice-President of the Laguna Beach Community Players; Board of Directors, Orange County Coast Association; Advisory Board, Laguna Beach Chamber Music Society; Patron, Laguna Beach Festival of Opera; World - wide travelers, Holden and his wife Sylvia have visited 53 foreign countries in their business and voluntary service activities, "and all the United States." But he is happy in Orange County. "I always knew I would finally settle here," he says. Holden has become a pert on early California life. It is his second avocation next to music. He lectures sively on the subject. "I hope," he said, "that Orange County Symphony can make cultural history here in Orange County."
