Wax Museum Figurine Of Liberace Unveiled Here
Liberace unveiled a wax image of himself at the Movieland Wax Museum in nearby Buena Park and raised the curtain on a $8000 gold-plated grand piano which is part of his set.
He thus became the first Hollywood concert artist to occupy a niche in the new hall of fame for motion picture and television greats. The sculpture shows Liberace as he appeared in the 1955 movie, "Sincerely Yours."
"I am highly honored to be represented among so many world-famous entertainers who have figures here," Liberace told the crowd of fans and civic officials on hand for the unveiling ceremonies which included a California champagne toast and congratulatory speeches.
As the newest of Buena Park's famous residents-in-wax, Liberace was presented with a gold key to the city by the mayor, John McShane.
In turn, the performers presented museum president Allen H. Parkinson with one of the first of the gold candelabra which have become a Liberace trademark.
The wax sculpture itself is costumed in one of the more spectacular of the artist's formal concert dress suits, with rhinestones and embroidery.
Liberace, who is on a three month personal appearance tour of the U.S. and Canada, arrived for the ceremony in the museum's gold Rolls Royce, with livestock chauffeur.
