Lawyers to Get Special Program A postgraduate program for Orange County attorneys on legal problems of real estate syndicates and investment trusts will be presented in Santa Ana May 12 at 9 a.m. in dept. five of the Superior Court, County Courthouse. The program is presented by the State Bar of California Committee on Continuing Education of the Bar through facilities of University of California Extension and in cooperation with the Orange County Bar Association. Harbor Blvd. — FULLERTON — Orange County Farm Bureau Advises on Services Budget Orange County’s Coroner and Public Administrator was the target of special comments of the Orange County Farm Bureau in a letter to the board of supervisors which "reinterated" thier "constant interest in the economy of government". The letter asked the supervisors, in contemplating the budget for the 1962-63 fiscal year to attempt to keep services at a level which will allow continuance of attraction of good industries to the county and to maintain a good economy. The recognized that the county supervisors have control over a rather minor share of the total tax load in the county, where almost half the tax rate is for schools alone. "One of the points which we wish particularly to impress upon you is that we will support you in a close scrutiny of the proposed budget as submitted by the Coroner-Administrator of Orange County", the Farm Bureau stated, "to the end that the will not be used for empire-ing and that the office shall managedinas economical a od as possible". The communication stated "serious consideration should given to using the office of County Counsel for legal service of the Coroner and Administr wherever possible". Richard Gay Gets Honorary Life Membership at Salk PTA Meeting Richard Gay, manager and vice-president of the Anaheim Bank of America, was awarded a honorary life membership by the Anaheim Council of PTA at the 4th annual Honorary Life Banquet held at Jonas E. Salk school. Paul Cook, superintendent of Anaheim Union High School District, presented the award. Mr. Gay is currently serving on the Masonic Temple board and on the Advisory Committee for the Anaheim Memorial Hospital as well as president for the second year of the Anaheim YMCA. A past chairman of the Anaheim Western Community United Fund campaign, he also served as president of the Rotary Club and president of the Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he was past chairman of the Citizens of Advisory Committee for promotion of school bonds for the Anaheim Union High School district and was chiefly responsible for the funds raised for the promotion of the successful bond election for the district. Mrs. Nicholas Freck, honorary life chairman for council, presided over the banquet attended by 200 recipients of whom 78 received the award this year. Warren Peterkin and the Acapella Choir from the new Savanna High School entertained with a selection of songs. Serving with Mrs. Freck on the banquet committee were Wynne Silver, Mrs. Verne DeFore,Mrs. James Griffith and Mrs. Val Renner. Los Angeles St., Anaheim Prices Eff THURSDAY thru SU WE G Bureau Cites Budget Rise In anticipation of the 1962-63 budget for the County of Orange which is now in its early stages of development, the county Farm Bureau has followed recommendations of its countywide tax committee and has made a statement concerning the county general hospital, which takes the largest local bite out of the property taxpayer's pocket. In the statement presented to the county Board of Supervisors, the farm groups cite an increase of the hospital budget in the last five years from $2,378,240 in 1956 to a budget of $5,735,752 for the current fiscal year. Population has increased an estimated 22 percent during this period, but the hospital budget has increased 125 per cent, the Farm Bureau states. According to the chairman of their tax committee, Everett Nichols of San Diego, Canyon, the present budgets are at least 18-20 per cent too high in relation to the population being served.
