HAWAII COMES TO ORANGE COUNTY — Velda Boyd of Santa Ana, 1961 Pirate Queen of the Orange County Fair, poses in the costume of "The Islands" for the new look of the Orange County Fair's stationery, advertising and turnstile entrance artwork being done by commercial artist Wally Freeland, right, of Santa Ana. Looking on is Stewart W. Yost, manager of the fair which will present its first Aloha Queen contest opening night of the five-day fair. Velda is the last of the 13 Pirate Queens who have reigned over the fair. An unknown Orange County beauty will reign as the first Aloha Queen — with two Aloha Princesses — over the July 10 to 15 fair. Aloha Queen . . . (Continued from Page One) princesses during the fair. Queen Supervisor is Mrs. Betty Gates of Laguna Beach director of publicity for the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts, working with Miss Mitche Leigh Hunt, the fair's director of publicity, and Don Bush, fair photographer. The 1962 Aloha Queen will represent Orange County in the "Maid of California' beauty contest at the California State Fair in Sacramento. All expenses for the queen and her chaperone are paid. Yost asked that those Orange County girls meeting the requirements contact their Chambers of Commerce. “This year we will have the biggest fair in the history of our county,” he said. “We want the biggest beauty competition we've ever had, too.” Film To Be Shown Your own beath can save a life!
