Adolph Schoepe Is New Scout President Here
Leadership of Northern Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America, passed into the hands of one of the area's most dynamic civic leaders Tuesday at Knott's Berry Farm.
On that date, Scouters of the Council met for the Seventeenth Annual Dinner and business meeting to witness installation of Adolf Schoepe as Council president.
Schoepe received the gavel of office from retiring president R. Lee Luskey.
Active in more than a score of civic organizations and a highly successful business man, Schoepe has been untiring in his efforts on behalf of the youth of the Council area.
Success of the campaign to finance and maintain Camp Ahwahnee was due largely to Schoepe's activity as a member of the finance committee. His career in scouting, which covers more than 10 years reached a high point last year, when, as a council vice president, he received the Silver Beaver award.
Schoepe founded the highly successful Kwikset Locks, Inc., and was president of the corporation until he sold it in 1957 for an interest in American Hardware corporation. In the same year, he established Fluidmaster, Inc., with headquarters in Fullerton.
Widely known as a civic leader, Schoepe is a past president of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce and is currently serving as a director.
He is a former chairman of the Industry Committee of the Associated Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles and chairman of the Organization Committee.
President of the Orange County Chapter of A.I.D., he also serves as chairman of the Committee to Employ the Physically Handicapped. Currently he serves as a mem-

J. Briggs Receives GOP Committee Nod
Things came in twos to John Briggs vice-president, Sportsman - Brigg. Insurance Agency, Buena Park, 69th Assembly District Republican candidate for assemblyman.
In addition to being named Young Man of the Year by the Buena Park Junior Chamber of Commerce, Briggs received the endorsement of the Republican Candidate Research Committee as candidate for the state assembly, 69th Assembly District.
Walter Knott, committee chairman, announced that Briggs had received the backing of the committee at a press conference in Anaheim, Tuesday.
Said Knott, "John Briggs was endorsed by a 75 member committee of Republicans representative of the entire district, one member for approximately each thousand voters.
"Every care and consideration was given to this endorsement. Many fine potential candidates appeared before the committee. They were of such high caliber that we called extra meetings to weigh their qualifications. Mr. Briggs was our selection for Assembly candidate in the 69th District." Knott explained.
"This does not mean that the door is closed on other qualified candidates. It does mean that after a great deal of time and research, John Briggs received the committee endorsement," he concluded.
Briggs, 51, has been a resident of Orange County for 27 years, residing in Fullerton for the past 18 years. He is married and the father of three children, Kathleen, 9, Daniel, 8, and Ronald, 5.
Briggs holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Long Beach State College.
He spent four years in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant radio operator. He spent a tour of duty in Korea and was discharged from the Air Force in 1952.

the county are either afraid to say something or don't know enough to say anything."
Traditionally a conservative republican city and county, many level-headed citizens are not only becoming bored, but disgusted with extreme rightwingers — especially the sort who throw about accusations without evidence to back them up.
During my 10 years of voting eligibility, I have vacillated between Democrat and Republican, voting for candidate rather than party.
And I have been as deeply nauseated by extremes in either party. I certainly do not want anything that has even a scent of socialism, but on the other hand, I also detest fascism.
At the extreme left is communism, at the far right is fascism and Nazism.
One of my most gratifying experiences of the past few months has been the discovery that the majority of Anaheimers and Orange countians are politically level-headed. They are capable of tempering the best on either side and coming up with a logical and reasonable synthesis.
As a rule, they find the 'nut' element amusing.
The only difficulty here is that the pre-Hitler Germans found the National Socialist German Workers' Party amusing, as did the publican revolutionaries in Russia find the Social Democratic Party (Bolsheviks), after the latter had overthrown the Czar.
As everyone knows, one became the Nazis and terrorized Europe for approximately 10 years, and the other became the Communist Party, and are presently threatening the entire free-world.
There is a great deal of hue and cry concerning 'creeping socialism' — to which there is a lot of truth —, but no one seems concerned with 'slipping fascism', which might turn out to be as great a danger, if anyone took the time to investigate.
This sort of condition (infiltration of extremist elements) usually comes about when citizens do not take the time to find out just who and what their candidates are and what they really stand for.
What we need in city hall, Sacramento and Washington are men who know what a job is and how to do it, not men who spend their time telling us how much they hate the communists, or the Democrats or the Republicans.
If a man is doing a good job, there will be no need to concern ourselves with 'creeping socialism', and if he is a patriot, he will remember that Democrat and Republican are only loose political tags placed on two parties which essentially are very similar in basic beliefs, and that, in the final analysis, Democrats and Republicans mixed together in a salad bowl still come out Americans.
