Anaheim Firm Produced
Buzza-Cardozo Plant
At Work on Desk
By DORIS LEE
"The journey of the Magi on that first Christmas has become a pilgrimage of many, many Christians through the succeeding centuries. Today, while many still make the geographical sojourn, the journey is perhaps best made from heart to heart, symbolized in the warmth of good will winging its way in the folds of the age-old, ever new Christmas card."
These words by an unknown author convey graphically the magic of the Christmas card, as much a part of our tradition as the hotdog at a ball game and popcorn at a movie.
The Christmas card has come a long way since its beginning in England around 1942 when it first appeared in ornate form with the simple "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" message.

One of its newest homes is the Buzza-Cardozo plant at 1500 S. Los Angeles St., where millions of greeting cards of all types are produced every year.

½ years old. I have been pretty good, but I also have been a bad boy at times. I promise to mind my mommy and daddy and Maggie does too. I will not get into the candy or mommy’s purse anymore. And I will not hit Maggie or other little girls anymore.
I would like a robot commando, and a missile kit, and a tonka tractor, and a crane, and a truck. Maggie would like a oretty dolly and a housekeeping set, and a pretty watch.
I love you,

The Board of Town Trustees held a meeting yesterday afternoon. Messrs. Cohen and Yocum were appointed a committee to purchase buckets, rope and hand hooks for use of the Fire Department, the cost not to exceed $55.
The petition of citizens on West Street, to have the street graded was referred to the committee on public improvements.
The following was adopted:
"Resolved, That the matter of introducing water into the town be referred to the Committee on Public Improvement to ascertain the probable cost and best means to secure that end and to report at the next general meeting, and further, that the President be added to that committee."
The Marshall was instructed to collect taxes until January 1st without exacting the additional 5 percent. The clerk was instructed to inquire of Tax Collector Kremer if the Citizens of Anaheim are charged with county road tax. The Marshall was ordered to either collect the dog tax or kill the dogs.

Dear Santa Claus,
In our home, we have four children and we don't want too much because we want you to save some toys for the poor children who have no mommy and daddy. Genie wants a "Deluxe Play Mobile," and a racing car. Roddy would like a holster set. Marianne asks for a Chatty Cathy and for Billy some building toys because he's only a baby. As soon as one line is finished,
artists and designers begin work immediately on 2,000 new designs for the next year's line, starting with fresh new ideas. Not all last year's designs are discarded, however; trends are watched, and popular, fast-selling designs are held and used again, perhaps with modifications. This year's sales are always watched to help determine next year's production rate.
Some Free-Lance
Although staff artists and versewriters do most of the creating at Buzza-Cardozo, some free-land material is accepted, Thompson says.
Buzza-Cardozo got its start in Minneapolis when George Buzza founded a plant called Craftacres, a title still used in referring to the plant. In 1932, in the midst of the depression, Ralph Cardozo started a small greeting card plant in Los Angeles and was later joined by Buzza.
Originally manufacturer of only Christmas cards, the fast-growing company soon branched out into all types. Five expanding moves took place in Los Angeles in the ensuing years, culminating
da. England and Australia, and has six district offices scattered throughout the country. Principal outlets are department stores, drug and variety stores and specialty shops.
The company merged with Gibson Greeting Cards five years ago, but still operates independently.
All Kinds of Cards
Christmas cards constitue 20 per cent of the plant's production, with summer cards, birthday
plant also produces wrapping paper and ribbon as part of its Christmas line.
Asked about the current trend in the contemporary card in which Buzza-Cardozo pioneered in 1953, Mr. Thompson said,
"It's definitely here to stay." Designing a contemporary card is a tough assignment, he says, because each design is a one-shot deal. It can't be repeated.

YULE GLITTER
All communities in the county are making preparations for unusual activities during the holiday season, and one of the most joyous Yuletides ever experienced here is expected. It has been a year of prosperity in the county, and already it is apparent that the people are disposed to be liberal in their purchases of Christmas goods. Several towns are preparing street decorations and municipal trees, and efforts will be made to see that every child receives something from Santa Claus.
In Anaheim an elaborate program of street decorating has been outlined and trees about ten feet in height will be used per and ribbon as part of its Christmas line.
Asked about the current trend in the contemporary card in which Buzza-Cardozo pioneered in 1953, Mr. Thompson said,

Designing a contemporary card is a tough assignment, he says, because each design is a one-shot deal. It can't be repeated.
