SA Christmas Parade Gets Local Entries When the Christmas season officially opens Saturday night in Santa Ana with the Santa Annual Frolic Christmas parade Anaheim will furnish three of the 17 bands expected to march. R. Heth local manager, announced today. The new all-number telephone numbers will be assigned starting a week from tomorrow (on Dec. 15). Total Switchover Later Other local numbers with letter prefixes, such as PRospect and KEystone, will not be changed for probably three years. Heth indicated, though California and the rest of the nation gradually are being changed to all-numerical calling (ANC). With 70 million telephones in operation throughout the United States and a prediction the number of instruments may jump to 140 million by 1975. Heth explained here this week, telephone companies literally are "running out of numbers." Names Running Out He said "We're running out of prefix names faster than anticipated and we need more usable combinations on the dial than the dwindling supply of two-letter prefixes can provide." He claims only 540 combinations of two letters will form words easily understood and distinguished from others which will work in telephone switching equipment. They Tried 'XK' "The experts nearly went crazy trying combinations like XK and YL" he said, "and finally gave up." The way the new system works is to use the numbers instead of the letters in the same "holes" on the telephone dial. For example what used to be PR 4-0000 under the new system will become 774-0000. A number like KE 5-0000 would be changed to 535-0000. Santa, would like to have, if you in stock and if you think I been a good boy all year, following things: Roy Rogers bicycle, football outfit, air rain coat and boots, fire fighter, camping set and canteen. In its pages are many features of particular interest to them. There is the Homemakers Page, the society page, the letters to Santa Claus written by some of their children. And, of course, there are the market ads — the pages the wise woman shopper reads with close attention. They are her guide to family budget savings. In fact, every issue of The Gazette, Orange County's oldest newspaper, can properly be called "ladies' day." Reunion for Men Of Pearl Harbor The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association is commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Japanese attack with a reunion at the Disneyland Hotel today. Reservations for the event represent every state in the Union, and some survivors have come from as far away as Japan. The program covers the entire day, starting with a memorial service at 7:55 a.m. with all military services participating. A memorial banquet will be held at 7 p.m. Pat Buttram will be toastmaster at the banquet, and many Hollywood stars will provide entertainment. Official hostesses are the Navy Mothers of Redondo Beach. Also on the program was a showing of the Japanese film, "I Bombed Pearl Harbor," to members of the survivors group. Mark Ferris, president of the Survivors Association, said efforts had been made to make contact with every survivor of Pearl Harbor before the anniversary. Personal representatives of all Chiefs of Staff are taking part in the day's activities. Farm Bureau Sets Christmas Party The Anaheim Farm Bureau Center Christmas party and meeting has been set for Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Farm Bureau Hall in Orange. A turkey dinner will be served with Center furnishing everything. St. John's Lutheran School children's choir will sing Christmas carols.
