ANN LANDERS . . .
Sister-in-Law Is
One Big Problem
Dear Ann Landers: The letter in your column about the kleptomaniae who stole from the purses of her bridge friends gave me the courage to write this:
We have the same problem with a sister-in-law. She's a deightful person but she's been stealing things from our homes for years. Her husband has an arrangement with the downtown stores. He returns the items she brings home in her handbag and in the lining of her coat, and they bill him for articles which they suspect her of lifting.
But what about us? We hate to tell him about the articles she steals from our homes. He has enough trouble as it is.
Last night she was here for dinner and I know she took a screwdriver, a pickle fork and a shower cap. Please advise.
— SILENT SO FAR
Dear Silent: It's wonderful of you to be so understanding, but relatives ought to get the same deal as the department stores.
The husband should be told about the missing items. If he can't retrieve them, send him a bill.
Dear Ann Landers: My mother is a 62-year-old widow. She lives in her own home and is comfortable.
My complaint is this: Mother has deleted her social life waiting on my sister, and her family. Mother bakes and cooks for them. She goes over there five time a week to clean the house and do the laundry.
My sister's husband is pretty smart; too — he says nobody can iron his shirts like Mother Jones. They even have the kids trained. They won't stay with a paid sitter. They want Granny.
I have three children, too, and I could use the help, but my mother never does one thing for me. Do you think it's fair of them to use her as a chief cook and bottle-washer? Please reply in the paper. I want them to see it.
— GRIPED
Dear Griped: What bothers you is not that your mother is being over-worked, but that you aren't getting any of her free services.
No one drags her to your sister's house in chains. She goes willingly, and obviously she enjoys being chief cook and bottle-washer. So stop weeping those crocodile tears.
Dear Ann Landers: I married an alcoholic woman. She told me when we were going together that what she needed was my love. I foolishly believed that marriage would cure her of drinking.
She kept me up every night for seven years — screaming, crying not paying enough her and accusing other women. When to throw things and her fists I called out tor for advice.
He suggested that committed. I refused came at me with it almost cost me a Yesterday she served by a psychiatrist alcoholic women us because of a man. I to write and ask her man was before she I can see now spend the rest of her to make me feel gnormally, and obviously she enjoys being chief cook and bottle-washer. So stop weeping those crocodile tears.

Anaheim High School has lined up with 15 other top cage teams in the Southland waiting for the tip-off in the 20th annual Beverly Hills High School Invitational Basketball Tournament slated for December 12 through 16.
"Traditionally one of the outstanding tournaments of its kind in Southern California, this year's tourney should prove no exception," declared Walt Puffer, co-host of the event and director of athletics at Beverly Hills.
As the 16 squads prepare to clash in Beverly Hills' famed Swim-Gym, experts are touting Anaheim, "Fillmore, and Mira Costa as the teams to beat.
With four varsity lettermen and members of an undefeated junior varsity squad returning, Coach Don Liebhart hopes to improve last year's second place showing in the Sunset League. The team is much bigger this year, averaging better than 6'2" and seems to be a better shooting squad. They stand a good chance of taking the crown.
The starting team's excites in Howard Storey Dave Bell (6'1"), and Faulkner (6'7") — brother tournament's first Most Player Award winner Faulkner. Rounding out it will be Bill Walker (5'7) Gerry Hampton (6'4").
Other squads vying for the trophies given to-the-finalists are Bellflower, Culver City, El Monte, Edo, Montebello, Morrorth North, Redondo, Santa Torrance, and Ventura schools, along with the hery Hills Normans.
Outstanding player of the day will receive a gold while individual plaques to players named on the list and second All-Tour teams. Coach of the team also will be present at a desk trophy. Puffer staunchly supports the outstanding tradition for the Beverly Hills studios according to Dr. F. Willis.
