GEORGE CHRISOPHER
The Honorable George Christopher, mayor of the city of San Francisco, will be the guest speaker at an annual Garden Party sponsored by the Garden Grove Federated Republican Women Sept. 24.
The personal history of George Christopher, 31st mayor of San Francisco, is a typical story of the American way of life and the boy who makes it on his own. At the age of 14, Christopher left day school due to the illness of his father, and from then on attended school only at night. He graduated from high school and studied at night for five years at the college level, graduating with a degree in accounting. After practicing as a public accountant for several years, he found a small milk company which is today the largest independently owned dairy in the San Francisco area.
In 1945, following his meteoric success in the business world he entered the political arena and was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He was re-elected by overwhelming majorities and twice served as president of the board.
He was elected mayor in 1955, and reelected in 1959.

Gary, president of the local organization, as co-ordinator, the affair this year will be a garden brunch given at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. Rinker, 9392 Town and Country Dr., in Garden Grove.
