A2—Anaheim Gazette Anaheim, Thursday, April 27, 1961 Mrs. Paul Bratloff, 'Real' Swedish Ski Mrs. Paul Bratloff, 1309 Merona St., is serving as chairman of the annual Swedish Smorgasbord to be held by the Orange Blossom lodge, Vasa Order of America, Saturday night in the Santa Ana YWCA. Mr. and Mrs. Axel Lindman of 311 N. Janss St. are in charge of the "tumbler" drawing for 20 various prizes. Chances for the tumbler prizes will be sold at 10 cents each. First prize will be a table radio. Serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. continuing to 7:30 p.m. Following the smorgasbord, a musical show featuring the Norsemen recording artists and other talent will be offered for entertainment. QUEEN CONTESTANTS SIGN IN—First group of candidates for the title of Pirate Queen of the 1961 Orange County Fair line up to be measured for their fair costumes with Mrs. Duane (Edythe) VeDel, official chaperone for the group. A retired old professor who once taught history in an Oriental country, routes in memory his friendship for a young student who later became father of his Country in a bloody revolution that cast off foreign rule, but finally failed as a leader. NON-FICTION HOW TO BOWL BETTER by Ned Day. Some good sequence photos on how to bowl, the curve, straight, and hook back; how to stand, how to hold the ball, rules of the game, how to score, and etiquette of bowling. NATURAL HISTORY OF NEW YORK CITY by John Kieran. A charming book about the wild animal world downtown which has not retreated an inch from its old haunts even with the coming of the big city. THE NEW NATIONS OF WEST AFRICA by Robert Theobald (editor). For readers who want to be informed about the Congo crises; a collection of some of the best from well known magazines about Africa, where it has been, where it is going. THE PROPHETIC VOICE IN MODERN FICTION by William Mueller. Using the themes of judgment, suffering, love, and so on, author develops them using the works of Joyce, Camus, Kafka, Silone, Faulkner and Graham Greene. READINGS FOR DEMOCRATS by Edward Reed. J. Troutman, 420 Packway, will participate in the annual Modern Dance Concert to be given at the University of California at Santa Barbara. The concert has been scheduled for two performances on April 28 and 29. Sharon, a sophomore, is majoring in physical education at UCSB. She will appear in the section of the program called "Ancient and Modern Primitives." Modern jazz will be the basis for the dance in which Sharon will participate. These classes offer the opportunity for those with previous experience in typing to brush up their skill and also get instruction in advanced techniques. Two classes are offered, one on Monday evening and one on Wednesday evening. Classes are still accepting enrollment. Monday evening class meets at Anaheim High and registration may be completed at the district office, 123 N. Citron St. Tax Exemption Lag Reported Veterans of Orange County are lagging in their filing of tax exemption affidavits and it appears that a last minute rush will be in order, according to Ben Liebermann, county service officer, and Hugh J. Plumb, county tax assessor. Past experience indicates that approximately 20,000 applications are still to be filed and both county officials warned that exemptions must be filed timely or they cannot be honored, according to state law.
