COMMENT
"What is being done to provide space for leisure and relaxation for an expanding Orange County population?"
That is a question being explored by that giant of the press, trucked in from Los Angeles.
Far be it for us to take issue with this journalism giant. But it does get a little hard to take when these "out-of-town publications" start trying to solve the problems of Anaheim and the rest of the county.
Far be it for us to take issue with this journalism giant. But it does get a little hard to take when these "out-of-town publications" start trying to solve the problems of Anaheim and the rest of the county.
In this most recent try the Times pleads, indirectly, that acquisition of land for play fails to keep pace with population growth.
Now we ask you: Did you come to Anaheim for the parks or did you buy a home here to take advantage of the backyard living provided by suburbia?
The answer is obvious. It is again rather apparent it is necessary to have a City Recreation and Parks Department. But let us hope their main function is not trying to see how much land they can acquire for more parks.
It is sufficient to say Orange County has been billed as one big playground. With the arrival of Disneyland to Anaheim this illusion starts to become a reality in many minds.
Yet, how many parks and play areas do we need? We spend thousands for our homes. We build that patio and put in the play gear for the youngsters. We have some of the finest backyard play areas in the nation. We have play areas

Kuchels Win High Honors at Press Fete
The Kuchel Family of the Anaheim Gazette was honored last week at the eighth annual Journalism Workshops at Santa Ana College.
The names of the late Henry Kuchel, longtime publisher of the Gazette; his widow, Mrs. Henry Kuchel, 315 S. Claudina St., and her two sons, Co-Publisher Ted Kuchel and U.S. Senator Thomas Kuchel, were inscribed on the college's Or-a rebuff by the City Council on their protests against multiple dwellings at entrance to their homes, today claim the fight isn't over yet.
"We are girding for a finish battle," spokesmen for the residents said, despite action by City Council for multiple units (R-3) zoning on the property in dispute.
"We are going to see if home owners in Anaheim have any rights at all," said Joseph Grant, an engineer, of 1314 Falcon Pl., whose home is one of those most affected by the project of developed Raymond Spehar.
"The important thing about the Anawood case is that it reveals at long last just what's wrong with Anaheim zoning. It's simply that the council doesn't respect the rights of the home owners. It rejects their petitions and protests, and is most indulgent toward real estate promoters, who actually are to blame for the che-
"The Euclid-Ball Co. and ning procedure," said resident Melbourne A. Gauer.
S. A. Freedman, 1714 Chalet Ave., who has led the fight against multiple dwellings, indicated that the drop in value on his home if multiple dwellings go in will be "from $7,000 to $8,000."
"In addition, commercial or multiple units in this area will cause all of the remaining available land nearby to go for commercial or multiple use, thus ruining what otherwise would be ideal for residential neighborhood," he declared.
"The proposed new Anaheim building is in keeping with California Federal's expression of confidence in the communities in which it has branch offices through substantial investments," said Edgerton.
California Federal presently occupies temporary quarters in Anaheim at 465 N. Loara, under the management of assistant vice president Ernest A. McGill. This office was opened in March, 1960, and since then has acquired more than 2000 savings accounts.
The association's facilities will be located on the ground floor of the proposed new Anaheim building which also will offer five floors of office rental units. Surmounting the penthouse will be a huge time and temperature indicator with 12 feet tall numerals that are expected to be visible for a distance of at least two miles.
Architectural plans prepared by Heusel & Homolka, A.I.A., Long Beach, feature an exterior of precast colored concrete panels alternating with aluminum windows that will have sun control screens. Contractors will be Pozzo Construction Company.
Senator Kuchel flew in from Washington to make three speeches during the day-long observance. He addressed the college assembly on current governmental problems; acknowledged the honors for the family at the afternoon Awards Assembly of the Journalism conference, and then was the speaker for the College Press Club banquet in the Penthouse Executive Club in Santa Ana.
The senator also was the guest of the college faculty at luncheon and conferred with professors of political science and history, in addition to being given a campus tour.
Framed certificates were given each of the Kuchels in recognition of the family's contributions to Orange County journalism. Henry came to Anaheim in 1859 and his family
