And for the Southern California gardener, there are few nicer things that money could buy. These evergreen fruits not only yield treats for your table, but dish up a bonus of year-round beauty as well. A case in point is the wonderfully decorative Loquat. Here is a tree that should never be let to grow untrained, for a few clips of the pruning shears will do wonder. As an espalier or as a small tree headed up to an umbrella of green, Loquat is ideal. The succulent orange-colored fruit is decorative and tasty. Avocados not only produce the famous salad and sandwich fruits which have become household necessities across the nation, but the large-leaved foliage creates very pleasant shade overhead. Your nurseryman can show you several good varieties for this area. Sapotes produce a summer harvest of green fruits that look like apples and taste like peaches. The flesh, however, has a creamy quality and to say that it literally melts in your mouth is no exaggeration. The New Residents Are Reminded Of Income Tax Thousands of newcomers who moved to California during 1960 were reminded this week by the State Franchise Tax Board that they must file California income tax returns. Persons moving to California are generally considered residents of the state for tax purposes when they arrive. Subsequently, their entire income after arrival is taxable. However, members of the armed forces who move to this state under military orders do not become residents by reason of their transfer here. Returns for 1960 must be filed by single individuals whose net income was $1,500 or more and by married couples whose combined net income was $3,000 or more. Newcomers to California who are uncertain of their resident status for income tax purposes should call at the local office or write to headquarters office of the Franchise Tax Board, 1025 P street, Sacramento 9464, for assistance. household necessities across the nation, but the large-leaved foliage creates very pleasant shade overhead. Your nurseryman can show you several good varieties for this area. Sapotes produce a summer harvest of green fruits that look like apples and taste like peaches. The flesh, however, has a creamy quality and to say that it literally melts in your mouth is no exaggeration. The tree should be headed at whatever height you want to form a spreading canopy of green. The Guava flavor is an acquire dtaste, but it doesn't take the novice long to acquire it. The musty flavor is altogether refreshing, whether it's taken out of hand or used in jellies. The yellow Lemon Guavas are preferred fresh, while the smaller Strawberry Guavas are mostly used in preserves. The unrelated Pineapple Guava is similar, if somewhat less succulent. All three are ornamental. Citrus in all varieties certainly fits into our category of ornamental and edible evergreen fruits, but they deserve a story of their own. Your nurseryman can supply every variety under the sun. Army $5,361,619 Contract Is Let Ford Motor Company's Aeronutronic Division at Newport Beach has been awarded a $5,361,619 contract by the Army for continuation of the development of the Shillelagh, a new surface-to-surface anti-tank missile designed for close-ir support of front line troops. C of C Managers To Meet April 10 Next meeting of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce Managers Association has been scheduled in arden Grove April 10. Main topic to be discussed will be parks and recreation. Anaheim Boys In Movie Roles Harold and Donald Hox of Anaheim have just completed acting assignments in the pilot film, "The Colonel's Lady," starring Miss Eve Arden, and photographed at Desilu Culver Studios in Culver City. Harold, 7, and Donald, 10, are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hoy, 609 S. Sylvan St. Their professional work is arranged by the Screen Children's Guild Agency of Hollywood and the boys have built up a good list of professional credits. They have been seen on the Ozzie and Harriet Show, G.E. Theatre and This Is the Life, a religious series produced by Family Films at Keywest Studios. Since the film in which the Anaheim boys worked with Miss Arden is a pilot film, no definite release date has been set, but if time-slot problems can be cleared it will be shown nationally this fall. Retired Officers Meet Tomorrow Members of the Orange Coast Retired Officers Club will meet at the Hurley Bell Inn at noon tomorrow, as guests of Col. Thomas Atkinson, its owner. The club now has approximately 150 members, all retired officers of the uniformed services. HOW TO MAKE MORE MONEY--MORE OFTEN --AND RECEIVE FREE GIFTS, TOO! (OPEN A NEW ACCOUNT AT ANAHEIM SAVINGS)
