News About Our Service Mer S. M. Frost, electrician's mate fireman apprentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond E. Frost of 9682 Cerritos Ave., and Eric B. VanCamp, seaman apprentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. George L. VanCamp of 2217 Clover Ave., are serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Midway operating with the Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific. Army Pvt. John E. Smith, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edd L. Smith, 10611 Brookhurst St., recently participated with other personnel from the 1st Armored Division's 13th Cavalry in annual Army training tests at Fort Hood, Texas. Smith, a driver in the cavalry's Company B, entered the Army in July 1960 and completed basic training at Fort Ord. He is a 1960 graduate of Western High School. Army Pfc. Robert Sabedra, 20, son of Felix N. Sabreda of 701 E. Adele St., participated in Laguna Beach Art Festival Dates Are Told This year's nationally famed Laguna Beach Festival of Arts dates have been set for Saturday, July 15, through Sunday, August 13. Preparations are underway for the 26th annual showing of a program of 24 "living pictures and sculpture" from a selected group of masters and contemporary art subjects, works of world famous artists. Due to the tremendous demand for reserved seats the festival management is prepared to accept mail orders will in advance of previous years and is now processing mail orders from all parts of the country. Many of these orders are for groups traveling some distance by bus and from corporations for their employes. Annually, some 100,000 tourists attend the art spectacle from all over the United States, Canada and foreign countries. The exercise was designed to provide training under cold weather conditions during day and night maneuvers. The Grafenwohr training area is the largest training site available to NATO forces in Europe. The 3d is one of five U.S. divisions in NATO'S "Pyramid of Power." Army Pvt. William F. Stephens, 19, son of Paul J. Stephens, 11860 Moen St., participated with other personnel from the 101st Airborne Division's 502d Infantry in a special STRAC (Strategic Army Corps) alert at Fort Campbell, Ky. Stephens, a rifleman in the infantry's Company E at the cort, entered the Army last October and completed basic training at Fort Hood, Texas. Jimm M. McLemore, engineer third class, USN, son of Mrs. Beatrice McKinney of 611 N. Olive St., while serving aboard the attack cargo ship USS Rankin, operating out of Norfolk, Va., participated in this year's largest Atlantic Fleet amphibious striking exercise in the Caribbean. Sixty-five ships and more than 20,000 bluejackets and marines, under command of Vice Admiral John McN. Taylor, commander, Amphibious Forces, Atlantic Fleet, were engaged in the operation which was designed to maintain combat efficiency in the amphibious striking forces. Jerry D. Bentley, radarman seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd T. Bentley of 300 N. Aladdin Dr., is participating in amphibious training exercises in the Caribbean while serving aboard the oiler USS Aucilla. The annual exercises are conducted to maintain the operational readiness of units of the Atlantic Fleet. The Aucilla, which operates out of Norfolk, Va., is scheduled to visit Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands while in the Caribbean. Marine Pvt. Jack W. Nosek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Nosek of 832 Romneya Dr., has completed a four-week individual combat training course with the Second Infantry Training Regiment at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton. The course includes instruction in the latest infantry tactics, scouting and patrolling, first-aid, military explosives, and defensive positions. Army Pvt. Steven C. MacKinnon, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex D. C. MacKinnon, 132 Orangewood Ave., recently arrived in France, is now a member of the 275th Signal Company.
