The equipment, being built by Beckman's Systems Division of Anaheim, will be used with two high-speed data processing systems which Lockheed ordered from Beckman under a prior $1,100,000 contract, according to Robert J. Baumann. Systems Division manager. Baumann said the systems, named PICE (for Programmable Integrated Control Equipment), will be used in the control of all data flowing between globe-circling satellites and the earth. The PICE peripheral equipment covered by the new contracts, he said, will be used in the processes that send commands to the satellites and retrieve information from them. The contracts include $1,500,000 for PICE peripheral equipment, and $308,000 for magnetic tape subsystems, which store and translate satellite information.
