COUNTY "DIMES" FOUNDATION ADVISORY GROUP IS NAMED Members of the Orange County Chapter Schools and Scholarship Committee of The National Foundation were introduced recently by Mrs. H. O. Boyvey of Newport Beach, women's advisor for the chapter, at a special luncheon meeting. The committee serves as an advisory group to guide the local chapter in planning the part of its program which concerns young people. Appointed to the advisory group were: Mrs. Robert Harbison, vice principal of Newport Harbor High School, scholarship chairman; Don Bedard, principal, Laguna Beach Junior and Senior High Schools; Mrs. Challen F. Landers, physical therapy; Ralph Hickman, counselor, Orange County Schools; Ralph Myhre, health education, Orange County Health Department; and Mrs. Grace Robertson, Orange United High School. Anaheim Man Gets Captaincy Herschel E. Coulter, 28, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Coulter, 554 South Citron St., has been promoted to permanent captain in the regular Air Force, the Lockbourne Air Force Base, Ohio, announced this week. Coulter is a graduate of Anaheim Union High and attended Santa Ana College. As a navigator, he was an instructor at the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. He entered pilot training after the Academy tour and is presently a B-47 Stratojet bomber pilot. Captain Coulter is assigned to the 419th Bomb Squadron of the Strategic Air Command. Also named to the committee were; Dr. Paul G. Buss, Orange County schools; Mrs. Josephine Murray, nursing counselor, Fullerton Junior College and High School; Mrs. Harvey Pease, president of the Harbor Council of P-TA; Mrs. Mildred Black, Orange County chapter, The National Foundation, and Mrs. Russell Northcutt, child and public health chairman. Included on the membership list were Father Hugh Clear, Mater Dei High School; Donald Cruckshank, Fullerton High School; John D. Hayes, assistant superintendent of Orange County schools; Arthur R. McKenzie, chief of police, Costa Mesa, and Mrs. Avery Streech. The March of Dimes-supported health program includes an extensive scholarship opportunity available to high school students. These are four-year scholarships in physical therapy, occupational therapy, and nursing. Also available are scholarships for medical social work and medicine for the second year of college. Mrs. Boyvey reported that 25 scholarships will be given in California, and the local chapter is encouraging interest in these important health careers. A vaccine survey presently underway in high schools throughout the county show that attention should be given to a polio immunization program for Orange County teenagers.
