State Has 86 Autos for Every Mile of Streets, County Roads There are 86 motor vehicles in California for every mile of streets and county roads. State Controller Alan Cranston reports in his review of the street and road financial transactions of the last fiscal year. Total street and road expenditures throughout the state were $292,683,659, as compared with $290,188,908 for the 1958-59 fiscal period, Cranston said. In more detail, the report states: Of this amount, $169,516,529 or approximately 58 per cent, was spent on 30,397 miles of city streets and the remaining $123,167,130 on 69,422 miles of county roads. The total number of vehicles listed, including those exempt from registration fees, was 8,623,871, compared with 8,062,641 for the prior year. Major street and road expenditure totals for 1959-60 were the $129,449,884 for construction and $113,704,419 for maintenance. The balance went for engineering and administration, acquisition of rights of way, equipment, and other real property. Los Angeles, with 5782 miles of city streets, accounts for nearly one-fifth of the total street mileage in the state. San Bernardino County's 4596 miles of roads is tops in the county category. Principal revenue sources for streets and roads include the gasoline tax, other state and federal subventions, local general funds, bonds, taxes for road purposes, and traffic fines and forfeitures. What's in it for me? If he'll work, there's faith in his future. Nothing...and everything It will demand your free time—often when you want that free time for other things. It will demand sincere enthusiasm and concentration. It will demand money, perhaps...certainly hard work and the sacrifice of some personal pleasures and whims. In return you'll have nothing you can hold in your hand...or put in the bank...or stick up over the mantelpiece. Nothing but priceless faith. Hardly a specific. But faith is not a specific thing. It comes when you need it most...and where. That's part of its strength—a strength that's as strong as you want to make it. Find the strength for your life... worship together this week Local Plant Aids Bomber, Missile Unit An Anaheim manufacturing concern this week took a modest bow as a participant in the introduction program of the Air Force's new international bomber, the B-52H.
