Forbid Peters Use of Mexican Migrant Labor
The U.S. Department of Labor has taken action revoking the authorization of Elmer C. Peters, user-member of the San Diego County Farmers Inc., to employ Mexican National workers.
Glenn E. Brockway, western director of the Labor Department's Bureau of Employment Security, said the action resulted from Peters' failure to give preference to domestic workers as provided in Article 9 of the Migrant Labor Agreement of 1951, as amended.
Since the decision of the Law Department regional director was not appealed by San Diego County Farmers, Inc., Peters, the latter is rendered inelegible to employ "braceros under the agreement which permits importation and use of Mexican Nationals when American workers are not available."

Here's Answer For Pretty Gift Problem
Looking for a practical yet beautiful, inexpensive Christmas gift for a friend or relative? Here is one that is pretty, practical as well a sbeing easy and simple to make while there is still time.
Nearly everyone has a table that becomes a center of attention during the holiday season, and this idea is for a centerpiece for that able.
Use a yard of 36-inch-wide Indian head, broadcloth or sail cloth and cut it into a complete circle as full as possible. A girl's size 6 or 7 circular skirt pattern works beautifully as a pattern.
Hem it all the way round, then use gold and white rickrack close to the hemmed edge forming a scalloped border. One inch inside this border use another line of rickrack in a contrasting color (if the yard circle is green, use red; if red, use green), then follow around again with another strip of gold and white, or silver and white rickrack.
Now you have a three-lined border all around the circle. If desired, use felt appliques of Christmas trees, snowflakes, bells or any other motif. Sew these into place with decorative sequins and beads in equal locations around the circle. Another decoration is to embroider "Noel," "Greetings" or "Merry Christmas" in script using two strands of white embroidery floss and two strands of red or green. Use the four strands together in the embroidery and you'll find it has a "candy cane" effect.
Then, your colorful centerpiece is done. It took about two hours of time and $1.50 worth of materials. Each circle can be different, according to your imagination and you can be the first to give your friends their 1960 Christmas gifts, because these gifts should be given early that hey may be enjoyed all during the holidays.

Colorado comes from the Spanish "colorado" (ruddy) in allusion to the colors of the Colorado River.

"One For Road" Can Cost More Than You Think
First-time conviction of drunk driving can cost a motorist nearly $5000, the Automobile Club of Southern California cautioned today.
Since January 1 more than 25,000 California motorists have been handed their first drunk driving convictions at a lost wages, fines and miscellaneous expenses, according to the Auto Club's estimate.
In addition to suffering mental anguish while in jail, loss of social stature and problems created for the family, a motorist's first drunk driving conviction is mighty expensive," commented Robert J. Cheney, Auto Club public safety department manager.
Wage losses alone, for a man "The vast volume of Christmas mail is only part of our whose job requires driving, could amount to $4000 or more because of the Motor Vehicle Department's policy of automatic six-month license suspensions for first-time drunk driving convictions.
"Assigned risk" insurance for a three-year period would cost approximately $225. The fine after conviction would probably be $250, with another $250 going to attorney fees.
