VISIT THESE FIRMS THIS WEEK B2—Anaheim Gazette 'Anaheim, Thursday, Oct. 20, 1900' Successful Family Living Topic of Lecture Series The first of four lectures in the Successful Family Living series presented by Orange Coast College adult and extended day program was given Oct. 17 in the OCC auditorium. Registration will be taken at the auditorium for each subsequent lecture, according to Dr. Thomas A. Blakely, dean of adult and extended day education. There is no charge for the lectures. Lecturer for the series will be Dr. Arthur L. Bietz, professor at the White Memorial Hospital and School of Medicine in Los Angeles. Dr. Bietz is a member of the American Psychological Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His topic for the initial lecture was "How to Develop Your Will Power." He explained that the development of the will is not arbitrary, but flows from the motivation of desires. Other lectures will be Oct. 24, "Words and Emotional Illness"—how words can lead to health or destroy mental health; Nov. 7, "The Psychology of Overcoming Fear"—how anxieties cripple and defeat creative possibilities, and Nov. 15, "The Future Is Up to You"—the belief in human freedom which allows man in western civilization to determine his own destiny. Evangelist at Church of Christ Gospel Meet Evangelist Roy H. Lanier Evangelist Roy H. Lanier of Phoenix, Arizona, will conduct a gospel meeting at the Church of Christ, Walnut Ave. and McNeil, in Buena Park, Oct. 2 through Nov. 2. Mr. Lanier is well known among Churches of Christ for his ability as a teacher, author and defender of the Gospel. He has taught in several Christian colleges. Los Angeles County schools in association with many Southern California school districts are renewing their Guidepost series on open television over KCOP, Channel 13. Included are the elementary series "Living in the West" and "What Do You Think?"; and secondary programs "You and Your Language" and "Current Issues." John F. McGrew, vice-principal at Western High School in Anaheim, has been selected to develop and present the 32-sho wseries on "Current Issues." The first show aired Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. Garden Club to Study Bonsai When the Garden Club of Anaheim meets at the home of Mrs. B. R. Coupland, 621 N. Carleton Ave., Friday, Oct. 21, a program on "Bonsai Arrangements" will be presented by Sumner, Hanna At FJC Today Orange County's two assemblymen will meet in a panel discussion before students at Fullerton Junior College at 10:30 a.m. today, Oct. 20. Gem, Mineral Groug Meet The Searchers Gem and Mineral Society will hold their regular monthly meeting tonight. John F. McGrew, vice-principal at Western High School in Anaheim, has been selected to develop and present the 32-sho wseries on "Current Issues." The first show aired Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. over Channel 13 and will be shown weekly during the 1960-61 school year. It will be re-shown aturSdays at 7:45 a.m. over Channel 5 as a public service presentation. The first unit of seven pre-election shows features an analysis of election issues and how critical thinking should be used to develop objective views. Distinguished young California political leaders will appear on various programs. Jane Seelinger, foreign exchange student from Uruguay to Western High School, and her foster sister, Judy Sparks, will be introduced on a show reporting "The American Image Abroad." Later units will cover major domestic and international issues of the day. McGrew has been a teacher of history, government and current affairs. He received his bachelor of science degree at the United States Naval Academy and has taken advanced work at Teachers College, Columbia University, Long Beach State, Claremont Graduate School and the University of Southern California. During his military career and as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command, McGrew saw service in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Far East. The open circuit approach to educational television gives all citizens a chance to see the same shows received in our schools. The second method for ETV and one that has been used with outstanding success by Anaheim elementary school utilization or modern technology to supplement classroom teachers in providing better education for American youth. Gem, Mineral Groug Meet The Searchers Gem and Mineral Society will hold their regular monthly meeting tonight at 8 o'clock, with the program to feature noted research paleontologist Ruth A. Kirkby speaking on "Petrified Wonders of Ancient Times." She has just returned from a field trip to Nova Scotia and her talk will be illustrated with slides of the many unusual fossil specimens. The Searchers meet upstairs at 211 E. Center St. in Anaheim, above the Home Savings and Loan, with entrance and parking facilities in the rear of the building. Members are urged to attend, as plans will be made for a four-day field trip over the Thanksgiving holiday. Visitors interested in the hobby of mineralogy are always welcome to attend these meetings. SOME TRAVELING MUSIO A check of the tunes played by the bands for "Dixieland at Disneyland" should be sweet music to any travel agent. Samples: "Louisiana I-A", "Georgia Camp Meeting", "Chicago", "Back Home in Indiana", "Southern Blues", "California Here I Come" and "Gettysburg March". That last one must have been thrown in for President Eisenhower. Or does anybody remember that 1960 is "Visit the USA Year" by presidential proclamation?
