Frederick Irving Enrolls at Brown
Brown Military Academy, Glendora, announced today that Frederick James Irving, son of Mrs. Jean Irving, 8425 Olinda Lane, Anaheim, has enrolled for the fall term. Cadet Irving, a member of the freshman class, formerly attended Rundlett Junior High in Concord, New Hampshire.
Brown is filled to capacity for the fall term. However, applications are being accepted and placed on a waiting list, with preference given to ninth and tenth grade applicants. The anticipated opening of a 96-man barracks at midterm will permit the enrollment of additional cadets. The new barracks, "The Eisenhower Hall," was recently given to the Academy by an anonymous donor.
Founded in 1908, Brown Military Academy is the only honor Army ROTC Military Institute west of the Rockies, having been awarded this honor for 20 consecutive years. In recognition of this honor rating, the Academy is entitled to nominate three candidates to West Point, Annapolis, and the Air Force Academy. Cadets nominated compete on a nation-wide basis with cadets from other honor ROTC military academies. Ninety-eight per cent of Brown graduates enter college.
Rubber, in the form of tires of all shapes and sizes, has been traveling over roads for years. Now there's even rubber in the roads on which the tires travel. The United States has more than 2000 miles of rubberized asphalt roads, according to the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. The firm reports that rubber additives in roads would lead to a better national highway system at lower ultimate cost.
WHAT'S DOING
Harvey Hendrickson, your Telephone Manager in Anaheim
Coast-to-coast phone calls by satellite. Scientists of Bell Telephone Laboratories tell us that someday long distance calls may very well reach your home via man-made satellites.
Working under National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s sponsorship, they carried on a two-way phone conversation between the Bell Telephone Labs in New Jersey and a NASA base in California via a “Project Echo” satellite. The signals carrying their voices were bounced off a 100-foot aluminized plastic sphere orbiting 1000 miles above the earth.
The Bell Telephone System has outlined to the government a plan to use about 50 satellites to provide communications between the United States and other parts of the world. Besides relaying phone calls, these satellites could also bring you live television from anywhere on earth.
Election day, November 8, is still a few days off. But it’s not too early to make plans so you’ll be sure to get to the polls. If you need transportation, now’s the time to arrange with your friends for a ride. If small children keep you close to home, perhaps you can swap baby-sitting chores with a neighbor.
You can make these arrangements by phone... but that’s not why I mention them. I just want to remind you that every vote is important. Be sure you cast yours November 8.
If we’re to believe cartoonists, nobody enjoys telephoning as much as today’s teenagers. I won’t risk an opinion on that subject, but I think

If we're to believe cartoonists, nobody enjoys telephoning as much as today's teenagers. I won't risk an opinion on that subject, but I think you'll be interested in our special telephone training program for young people.
It's called Teletrainer, and it's mighty popular in high schools. Last year, for example, nearly a quarter of a million high school students were trained with it throughout the Pacific West.
We make Teletrainer available free of charge to help young people learn how to use telephones correctly.

Boasting about your home, Higgins? Well, that's understandable. Most men who have worked hard through the years to buy good homes for their families are proud of them.
Nice as your home is, its location in a progressive community, with all the public facilities needed for modern living, adds greatly to its attractiveness.
Someday—perhaps years from now—you may sell your home. When you do, the good schools, well-equipped fire department, modern hospitals, ample supply of pure water and other community assets can make a difference of several thousand dollars cash in your pocket.
Of course, you share the cost of these community assets. But the cost is spread over a long period of time to keep taxes at a reasonable rate. This is done by sale of municipal bonds on a competitive bid basis.

KEN WILLIAMS, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BUILDER AND HOME OWNER
"I could live in any kind of home I want, but I prefer my home built to Medallion Award standards. My wife, of course, goes for the all-electric kitchen. It's cooler and cleaner, easy to take care of. Since she helps me in my business, she needs a kitchen that's fast to work in. She gets it all in our Medallion kitchen."
I want Medallion Award homes, what I know: If the home you Medallion, you'll have all the electric living, with lasting value."
Ken Williams, an expert builder who practices what he preaches, lives in his own Medallion Award home.
