ANAHEIM KE 5-5450 Frozen Foods May Not Be Cold Enough "When is a package of frozen food one year old?" asks Mr. Prentiss, home advisor with University of California Agricultural Extension Service. The Western Research Laboratory at Albany, California, reeves a package of frozen food will deteriorate as much in 6 weeks at 15°F. As same food would year at 0°F. 1 year at 0°F. 6 months at 5°F. 3 months at 10°F. Weeks at 20°F. For each 5°F rise in temperature cut the storage time in half. Because no food improves age, because room in freezer costly, because many refrigerator combinations do not 0° temperature, rapid turnover frozen foods should be planned. A package of frozen foods a hazardous life between THE GREAT NEED OF MAN By FRED D. DOMMER, Pastor Lamb of God Evangelical Lutheran Church South and Sunkist Streets, Anaheim (Temporary Meeting Place: Rosslyn and Acacia) Worship Services 9 A.M. To a large extent chaos and confusion characterizes the age in which we live. This certainly should not be the situation among Christian believers. Our thinking ought to be clear and purposeful, and it will be if we keep ever before us the fact that the great need of man is to be in fellowship with God. This fellowship, once broken for all men by the sin of Adam, is restored in Jesus Christ the Redeemer of the world. Scripture declares to every one whose faith is in Him "You who once were far off have been brought near in the blood of Christ . . . so then you are no longer strangers . . . but members of the household of God . . ." (Ephesians 2:13-19) Man's great need for fellowship with God is satisfied in Christ. Fellowship with God is re-established through faith in the person and work of Jesus, the Son of God, "who for us men, and for our salvation . . . was made man: and was crucified for us . . . and rose again . .." (Nicene Creed) Realizing that this is the basic need of every man, woman and child, and that Christ alone can satisfy that need, our responsibility becomes clear. If others are to know God through Christ, Christians must share the "word of reconciliation" with all. The Gospel must be preached "to all nations!" We must tell others who Christ is and what He has done for us! We are His witnesses! Jesus said, "Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth." (Acts 1:8) Therefore, the task committed to us, Christians face each day with a conscious realization that: "Christ has no hands but our hands To do His work today. He has no feet but ours To lead men in His way." Gardener's Check List By the California Association of Nurserymen 1. Bulbs top the plant list this month. Bishop Manning To Address First Friday Frars Tomorrow Evening The Most Rev. Timothy Manning, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, will be the principal speaker and guest of honor at the Oct. 7 meeting of the First Friday Friars, it was announced today. More than 400 members of the Friars are expected to attend the luncheon at the Gourmet Restaurant, Disneyland Hotel. It is the first meeting of the 1960-61 program, according to Richard R. Murphy, president. Born in County Cork, Ireland, in 1909, Bishop Manning was graduated from Mungret College, Limerick, in 1927. He emigrated to California and entered Saint Patrick's Seminary, Menlo Park, in 1928. Ordained in 1934, he served as a parish priest before becoming secretary to the late Archbishop Thomas Cantwell in 1938, following studies in Rome. Consecrated Titular Bishop of Lesni in 1946, he became chancellor of the Archdiocese in 1948. Regarded as one of America's outstanding church administrators, Bishop Manning was appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese in 1955. Organized in September 1959, the First Friday Friars is a group of Catholic business and professional laymen. On each First Friday, they attend Mass and receive Holy Communion prior to attending the luncheon. Murphy emphasized that the group is neither a political nor social action body. "It is purely a spiritual and introspective experience." Friars numbered 200. Today it has grown to more than 400 members. In addition to Murphy, officers include: James L. Prager, vice-president; William Kelly Hagerty, treasurer; and James Gilmore, secretary. Members of the board of directors are Edward O. Podell, John M. Hughes, Alan J. McInnis and Leo Considine. Hornet Honeys Select Members After more than 100 women had competed in lengthy tryouts, 49 Fullerton Junior College women were selected for the elite dance-march group, the Hornet Honeys. The Hornet Honeys, captained by Sharon Ford of Anaheim, with the assistance of Star Flick of Downey, will march with the Hornet band for all football games and parades, developing most of their own routines. Hornet Honey costumes changed each year and selected by women of the group, this year will be yellow with white and yellow striped trim. All the group were introduced at half-time during the first game of the year, the Fresno game at Fullerton last Saturday afternoon. Their official debut is set for the San Bernardino-FJC game at Fullerton on Oct. 14. Selected as members of the Summerfield noted that has been a revival of personal writing during the last years. The Postmaster Oral said: "A letter remains the economical, longest lasting most sincere means of exchanging news and exchanging ideas." During Letter Writing Postmaster McFie suggests individuals write at least letters: one to a friend or from whom you have not in a long time and the see a reply to a friend or relate recently wrote to you. I urged correspondence to post other countries as a mode promoting greater understanding among the people of different nations. LINKS TO FRIENDSHIP Letter Writing Week In Progress The 23rd annual Letter Writing week will take place Oct. 2 to 8, according to a statement issued today by Postmaster General Arthur E. Summerfield to Anaheim Postmaster Marshall N. McFie. The slogan of this year's event, indicated on more than 200,000 runners, is "Letters Are Links to Friendship." The display material will appear in post office lobbies, vehicles on rural carrier routes well as in schools and libraries. Summerfield noted that there has been a revival of personal letter writing during the last few years. The Postmaster General said: "A letter remains the most economical, longest lasting, and most sincere means of extending greetings, communicating social news and exchanging ideas." If one month could be singled out as the favorite lawn-planting month in California, it would probably be September. Members of the California Association of Nurserymen suggest there is good reason for this since the winter rains insure that the lawn gets a good start in life. Check with your nurseryman to be sure you get the right seed mix for the traffic your lawn will have to tolerate. Common Malady Do you have the look-alike blues? If so, you've got plenty of company. It's a common American malady these days among home owners who found that their best housing buy was in one of the thousands of developments that have become so popular. Now, with initial expenses out of the way, they're looking for ways to add individual touches to their property. A quality durable item like stucco is the answer because it combines beauty with ease of cleaning and true, long-range economy. ?? DISCOUNTS ?? "CHECK OUR PRICES" CASTLE FURNITURE & APPLIANCES 121 N.
