A6-Anaheim Gazette (Anaheim, Thursday, Oct. 6, 1960) Sleek Impala One of 20 New Chevrolets Designers have applied smooth, graceful lines to the '61 Chevrolet Impala, Bel Air and Biscayne passenger car lines. Wings on the rear deck have been smoothed into the body. Roof lines, as noted in the Impala Sport Sedan (above) are freshly contoured and are separately styled for each model. Overall body design features gently sloping lines. Rear trunk deck lid now opens flush with top of bumper affording easier loading and unloading. Fuel tank has been repositioned for greater safety. The Impala Sport Sedan is one of 20 body styles in the standard Chevrolet line. Martin Luther Hospital Names Directors For Departments Appointment of two department heads at the new Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim was announced today by the Rev. Harry F. Stief, president of the hospital's board of directors. Mrs. Sybilla C. Freed, R.N., formerly assistant superintendent of Atascadero State Hospital, has been named director of nursing at August Reflects Employment Gain Irving H. Perluss, Director of Appointment of two department heads at the new Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim was announced today by the Rev. Harry F. Stief, president of the hospital's board of directors. Mrs. Sybilla C. Freed, R.N., formerly assistant superintendent of Atascadero State Hospital, has been named director of nursing at Martin Luther. Miss Frances E. Tossey, R.N., has been appointed supervisor of surgical services. She was previously operating room supervisor at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Calif. "We are extremely pleased to fill these two posts with such highly-qualified directors," said the Rev. Stief. "The experience of Mrs. Freed and Miss Tossey indicates the level for which we will strive in selecting our hospital staff." Stief explained that in the interest of achieving efficiency and excellence in the operating rooms, the hospital's surgical services will be a separate department directly under Martin Luther administrator Arthur G. Turner. Mrs. Freed has been on the staff at Atascadero since 1954, serving since 1957 as assistant superintendent of the nursing service. She was a staff nurse at the Army Hospital, Camp San Luis Obispo, from 1951 to '53; was director of the nursing service at J. Lewis Crozer Hospital, Chester, Pa., from 1947 to '51 and was a nurse in the Navy from 1942 to '46, serving in a fleet hospital in the South Pacific. She has been disaster planning officer for the nursing service at Atascadero and founded the Latin American Group and the Atascadero Youth Group while serving at the hospital. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Chester Hospital School of Nursing. Miss Tossey has been at the new Parkview Hospital since 1958 when she organized the operating room supervision. August Reflects Employment Gain Irving H. Perluss, Director of Employment, today reported that employers in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Orange County area added 1,900 workers to their payrolls in the July-August period. The uptrend was less-than-seasonal, but it raised total employment to 2,670,200 a new record for the month of August. Unemployment declined from July to August, influenced to a major extent by the withdrawal of summer vacation jobseekers from the labor force. The non-manufacturing industries, particularly construction and service, accounted for the over-all employment gain between July and August. Manufacturing, however, moderated the uptrend as factory employment recorded a loss for the sixth straight month. Sharp cutbacks in aircraft and automobiles outweighed the seasonal increases in food canning and apparel, and the favorable effects of a trade dispute settlement in ordnance. Layoffs of auto workers reflected the production slowdown during the model change period, but the reduction in aircraft marked the extension of a long term downtrend that dropped employment in the area's largest industry to lowest level since 1952. Largely because of this influence manufacturing employment has been running below a comparable year-ago level for the past three months. Total employment, however, was up by 47,900 workers, or 1.8 per cent since last August not only because of the sustained growth trends in non-manufacturing, but also because the comparison was with a period when an industry-wide steel strike was active. Atascadero and founded the Latin American Group and the Atasca-dero Youth Group while serving at the hospital. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Chester Hospital School of Nursing. Miss Tossey has been at the new Parkview Hospital since 1958, when she organized the operating room supervision. She served for six years as nurse in charge of the New York City Blood Vessel Bank at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. The bank provided arterial grafts to hospitals throughout the city. She was staff nurse; assistant head nurse and head nurse at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center from 1947 to 1951. She attended the University of Illinois and Hunter College and graduated from the Julia Burnham School of Nursing at Champaign, Ill. She was on the operating room staff at Burnham City Hospital in Champaign for one year following her graduation. HOMEMAKER HINTS A new baby in the house always stimulated increased care for cleanliness. The hazards of hidden dirt are always an element in new parents' concern for their new arrival. One recognized and recommended way to insure cleanliness with a minimum of effort in these busy and tiring times is to cover floors whenever possible with surfacing material such as hardwood. It cleans completely with just a wipe—and adds permanent beauty as well as value to the home as well. PENNEY'S ALWAYS FIRST QUALITY! DOWNTOWN --- ANAHEIM Shop Mon. - Thurs. - Fri.
