CAMP PENDLETON (FHTNC)—Marine SSgt. John J. Lacy, son of Mrs. Hattie M. Lacy of 8890 Brookhurst Ave., Anaheim, and husband of the former Miss Alice M. Brunk of Route 1, Savannah, Mo., is serving at the Marine Corps Base here.
Before enlisting in April 1948, he graduated from Gard’s Business College.
SAN FRANCISCO (FHTNC)—Clay F. Wallace Jr., ship fitter third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Wallace of 10288 Mira Tona, Anaheim, serving aboard the attack cargo ship USS Merrick, attended the third annual Pacific Festival held here Sept. 9 to 18.
The Pacific Festival is designed to foster mutual understanding and cultural relations among the peoples of the Pacific. More than 40 nations were represented at the celebration this year.
U.S. Navy participation in the event included a fleet review staged by more than 20 ships of the U.S. First Fleet, “open houses” aboard various ships which provided thousands of civilians an opportunity to get a first-hand look at their Navy, and numerous civic functions at which Navymen were guests of honor. Commander of the First Fleet is Vice Admiral Charles L. Melson.
SAN DIEGO (FHTNC)—Theodore L. Rector, son of Mrs. Eva A. Bales of 8182 Morage, Anaheim, graduated from recruit training Sept. 9 at the Naval Training Center.

The graduation exercises, marking the end of nine weeks of "boot camp," included a full dress parade and review before military and civilian dignitaries.
NEWPORT, R.I. (FHTNC) — Allan Collins, fire control technician third class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Collins of 1824 Diana Ave., Anaheim, returned to Newport Sept. 1 aboard the destroyer escort USS Keppler after completing a three-month tour of duty with the U.S. Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean.
During the deployment the Keppler visited ports in Spain, Italy and France.

Goodwin of Los Angeles, serving aboard the auxiliary submarine USS Queenfish, attended the third annual Pacific Festival held here Sept. 9 to 18.

AUGSBURG, Germany (AHT NC)—Army PFC Roger R. Strickland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Strickland, 817 N. Topeka St., Anaheim, recently participated with other members of the 24th Infantry Division in Exercise Summer Shield, a two-week field training problem, in the Bavarian region of Germany.
The exercise provided the troops with practical experience...
AUGSBURG, Germany (AHT NC)—Army PFC Roger R. Strickland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Strickland, 817 N. Topeka St., Anaheim, recently participated with other members of the 24th Infantry Division in Exercise Summer Shield, a two-week field training problem, in the Bavarian region of Germany.
The exercise provided the troops with practical experience in working as independent units under isolated field conditions.
Strickland, a rifleman in Company B of the division's 2d Infantry, entered the Army in September 1959 and arrived overseas in June 1960.
The 19-year-old soldier is a 1959 graduate of Anaheim Union High School. Before entering the Army, he was employed by Petco Construction Company, Buena Park.
SAN FRANCISCO (FHTNC)—Robert D. Long, fireman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sauer of 3631 Myrmella Anaheim, serving aboard the radar picket escort vessel USS Finch, attended the third annual Pacific Festival held here Sept. 9 to 18.
Tommie E. Yates, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theron L. Yates, 905 Cambrig St., Anaheim, was promoted to specialist four Sept. 10 in Germany, where he is a member of the 53d Ordnance Company.
Yates, a mechanic in the company in Nurnberg, entered the Army in February 1959, completed basic training at Fort Ord and arrived overseas last May.
The 20-year-old soldier is a 1958 graduate of Anaheim Union High School.
