Orange County Queen Enters Annual California State Fair Beauty Contest Orange County will be represented by Cindy Gillette in the annual Maid of California contest at the California State Fair and Exposition in Sacramento. Cindy will compete with representatives from the other counties of the state for the beauty title. The winner from among the 50-some girls will receive a $1,000 United States savings bond. She also will make personal appearances at various dinners and meetings during the first several days of the State Fair. All of the contestants take part in the pre-Fair pageant on Sunday, Aug. 28. At that time, the judges select 11 finalists who will have roles in the opening day ceremonies on Wednesday, Aug. 31. Governor Edmund G. Brown will crown the Maid of California during those ceremonies. Cindy is a graduate of Orange High School. She plans to enter Pasadena City College to prepare for a theater career. While in high school, Cindy was Homecoming Princess and songleader. She is 18 years of age, five feet, seven and one-half inches tall, and she weighs 125 pounds. Her statistics are 37-24-36. Richard Nevina, vice-chairman and 4th District member of the board, who was instrumental in choosing the site, said this building will include his offices as well as the recently reorganized administrative offices for Los Angeles County under the supervision of District Tax Administrator Wm. R. Thomson. Pasadena board of directors member C. M. Linton and Chamber of Commerce President-elect Dr. Joseph Engholm joined Nevins in the ground-breaking. Nevins commented at the ceremony: "This new building will be the center of tax activity in Southern California. The 4th District, larger than the other three Equalization Districts of he board, comprised of the eight southern counties, has a population of 8,924,866, 57% of the State's total; 56% of the State's tax permits—388,654; and contributes 57% of the sales tax revenue to the State, cities and counties, which last fiscal year topped $900,000,000." LINDSKOOG, Pastor The Neighborhood Church·2120 Cypress Avenue, Anaheim Member of The Christian and Missionary Alliance Text—Matthew 24:25: "Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household." The subject matter for this sermon is taken from Matthew 25:14-30. If it was possible for one man in this world to be the manager of all business enterprises, every bank, every automobile agency, every insurance company, every store; if it was possible for all the material interests of this world to be centralized under the management of one man; that would be a tremendous responsibility. But every man on this earth, breathing this world's air, has a greater responsibility than that before God. Every man is intended to be a steward for God. A steward is a manager of a household or an estate. In this case the estate is God's and we are His stewards. Our text, Matthew 24:45, gives us a definition of a steward. He is a ruler, or manager over another man's goods. Since this enterprise of God deals with spiritual and eternal values, and since one soul is worth more in the sight of God than all the material wealth of the world, therefore the most important business in this world is that which is related to the spiritual and eternal souls of men, and this is the business God has put us in. There are three things I want to say about this business enterprise, and our responsibility to it as stewards. These three things are found in Matthew 25:14-30. 1. First, let us notice THE INTERESTS THAT HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO US AS STEWARDS. We are told about a man going into a far country, who called his servants together and delivered them his goods. As a steward of God you are to use your ability. You will find that stated in verse 15 where Jesus said, "to every man according to his several ability." The words "several ability" means your own ability. Whatever ability you have you are to use. If you have the ability to sing you are to use it in propagating the gospel. If you have business ability you are to use it in the propagation of the gospel. Any ability you have you are to use. But your own ability is not sufficient because you are dealing with spiritual and eternal things. Therefore the Lord has provided what are called talents. These are not the human talents we have just been speaking about. These talents are from God, they are Divine. They are given us as a Divine enablement to us. One of them is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Before Christ ascended He said, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Then in Acts 2:4 it says, "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit." You see, Christ sent His Spirit to come and create within us a new life, new desires, new concern, and a deep love for God and for the souls of men. This we must have as a Divine enablement as stewards, or managers of His estate. There are other Divine enablements that Christ gives to us as gifts. In Ephesians 4:7-11 we see that He has provided grace. This is not grace manifested by Him, but His grace imparted to us as an enabling gift. We must have a gracious character before we can carry on His business successfully. And this grace comes from Christ as a gift for our inner life. He gives us other gifts also, as we see in this same portion of Scripture in Ephesians. He gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors, and some teachers. These are given to men for the purpose of equipping His people for their work of building up the church which is Christ's body. 3. The Third thing I want to say is that In the sight of God than all the material wealth of the world, therefore the most important business in this world is that which is related to the spiritual and eternal souls of men, and this is the business God has put us in. There are three things I want to say about this business enterprise, and our responsibility to it as stewards. These three things are found in Matthew 25:14-30. 1. First, let us notice THE INTERESTS THAT HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO US AS STEWARDS. We are told about a man going into a far country, who called his servants together and delivered to them his goods. This man represents the Lord Jesus Christ who came into this world and died on the cross, then rose from the dead, and ascended to the right hand of the Father. Before He left He delivered to us His goods. What are these goods? They are all the spiritual interests that Christ provided for the world by His death and resurrection. That would include salvation, and the subsequent growth in grace unto the likeness of Christ. Because Christ has delivered to us His goods, the providing of spiritual blessings for the world, He said in His great commission, "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." Our responsibility is to tell the world what Christ has provided for them as individuals. 2. The Second Thing that you will find in these verses of Scripture is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
