Education Defined In Baha'i Writings
An interesting quotation on education from the Baha'i writings, states Robert C. Moore, press representative for the Baha'i Spiritual Assembly of Anaheim, is as follows: "Education is of three kinds: material, human, and spiritual. Material education is concerned with the progress and development of the body, through gaining its sustenance, its material comfort and ease. This education is common to animals and man. Human education signifies civilization and progress; that is to say government administra-

Adult Swim Classes Conducted in Area
Registration is still open for Monday and Tuesday evening adult swimming lessons at Western and Anaheim high school pools. Lessons start at 7 p.m. and run through 9 p.m.
Beginner and intermediate swimming lessons are conducted by certified American Red Cross water safety instructors. Fee for the five-week session is $3.
Registration is taken at both Anaheim and Western high schools on Monday or Tuesday evenings before the classes begin. Persons must be 18 years or older.
Presentative for the Baha'i Spiritual Assembly of Anaheim, is as follows: "Education is of three kinds: material, human, and spiritual. Material education is concerned with the progress and development of the body, through gaining its sustenance, its material comfort and ease. This education is common to animals and man. Human education signifies civilization and progress; that is to say, government, administration, charitable works, trade, arts, and handicrafts, sciences, great inventions and discoveries of physical laws, which are the activities essential to man as distinguished from the animal. Divine education is that of the Kingdom of God: it consists in acquiring divine perfections, and this is true education; for in this estate man becomes the center of divine appearance, the manifestation of the words, 'Let us make man in our image and after our likeness.' This is the supreme goal of the world of humanity."
"How to Succeed"
By PASTOR WAYNE R. DAVIDSON
Failure! Our world today is filled with sounds and signs of failure. The minister is constantly reminded of personal failure in his daily counselling program. The nation's press is filled with stories of our failure at home and abroad.
We are history's richest nation and have given more to other peoples than any other nation on earth, and yet we have not made friends. Failure! With a standard of living that is the envy of the whole world we have the highest crime rate, one of the highest divorce rates and are among the highest in the incidence of mental illness. Failure!
Thousands are asking, "What's wrong?" We seem to be drifting toward the brink. We have lost our aims and goals. We are lacking in purpose as individuals and as a nation. For the individual and consequently for the nation how can we become the success in life we want to be?
I think that there are rules or principles we must learn and follow if we are to succeed. This list may not be complete, but it is a starting point. And, these simple rules will help any person toward a more successful life.
ONE: Learn the formula for success!
It is simply: Desire plus Belief minus Doubt equals Success. DESIRE. Here is the point of beginning for anything worthwhile. You must WANT to succeed! And the more you want anything, the more likely it is that you will succeed.
BELIEF. Few if any ever succeed without some sort of faith. Many have great desires, but do not have any faith in their ability to accomplish those goals.
tal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin; but yield yourselves as unto God; as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God."
We are a nation without discipline! Despite the urgings of Christ and the commandments of Scripture and the lessons of experience. We indulge ourselves in luxury. We have much and want more. Leaders of youth are alarmed because our young people have no challenge. The clamor is for more without effort or discipline or energy expended to achieve. Unless we discipline ourselves to decency, tolerance, understanding and control our plush curtain will eventually suffocate us.
THREE: Conquer Circumstances.
Again we turn to St. Paul. His life was one of danger and excitement. Many times circumstances were against him. But invariably he turned the circumstances to an advantage. There was the time he was imprisoned in Phillipi. Before the night was out he was free and the jailer was converted.
Even the dark days in Rome's dungeon became the scene of great triumph for out of that cell came some of the greatest of all New Testament writings.
He had learned that circumstances need not dictate success or failure. It is our attitude toward them that makes the difference. Dying on the cross Jesus Christ seemed the world's greatest failure. But He took that day of agony and made it the source of comfort, life and peace for millions.
more successful life.

BELIEF. Few if any ever succeed without some sort of faith. Many have great desires, but do not have any faith in their ability to accomplish those goals. Hard work, as vital as it is to success, cannot take the place of a simple faith in one's person and one's goals and desires. If you believe that you can do it, you will come a thousand miles closer to the target than the person who labors without faith.
DOUBT. Here is the robber that sneaks in and ruins many a march toward success. Just a hint of doubt can destroy your faith and cheat you out of the goal. A man I know was on the pinnacle of success. The world was at his feet. Then he began to doubt his ability, his religion and his purposes. In less than a year he was a failure.
TWO: Discipline.
St. Paul said in Romans 6:12 and 13, "Let not sin therefore reign in your mor-

Most people are defeated here. They have worked for a goal and it is in sight, then things go wrong and they give up. If this had to be true then Valley Forge would have been the end of the American Revolution. If this had to be true then Abe Lincoln would never have walked from the hills and woods of Kentucky and Illinois to the White House.
FOUR: Work.
Without this there can be no success. This is true in all of life. If you do not work on the job you lose it. If you do not work at your marriage you lose it. If you do not work at human relations you lose friends. And, if you do not work at being good and decent and Christian you will fail here too.
