Knott Backs YMCA
Building Program
Walter Knott, founder of famous Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, joined other community leaders in North Orange County to urge support of the YMCA Building Fund Campaign.
Designed to build a 'home' for the Y here, the campaign is now near the mid-point, according to Drive Chairman Joe Johnson of Fullerton.
Knott explained that the active YMCA program here has operated without facilities for more than forty years. In order to continue their work on a minimal basis, the Y must have at least a central building in the huge district which includes La Habra, Brea, Placentia, Fullerton and Buena Park.
A long-time supporter of the Y, Knott remembers when his own youngsters participated in the program here.
His son, Russell Knott joined the Y as a youngster in the Friendly Indian Group along with his friends in Buena Park. He later became active in the Hi-Y and attended numerous sessions at Camp Osceola.
Knott said that the program was valuable to him as a youth and feels that the religious training offered in the program is valuable to all young persons.
