DINING & Smoking Precaution Urged in US Forests Forest officers responsible for fire protection in the Cleveland National Forest caution all visitors to the National Forest to use extreme caution in smoking and the use of fire. All smoking must be confined to places of habitation, within the posted exterior limits of campgrounds and in posted area, commonly known as "fag stations." In all cases, cigarettes, cigars and pipe heels must be thoroughly extinguished. Remember also, a match can be a deadly missile — break it in two before disposal. Campfires are allowed only at designated improved campgrounds inside stoves, in charcoal braziers or gasoline stoves. Open fires are strictly prohibited. It is recommended, all persons planning a visit to the National Forest area, check with local forest officers previous to their trip for information regarding rules and regulations which apply to proper use and the prevention of fires. Phone Numbers Change Due Alpha Beta Prexy Endorses Campaign For New YMCA Alpha Beta Food Markets President, Claude W. Edwards, endorsed the North Orange County YMCA Building Fund Drive with the statement, "There has never before been so great a need." The drive will provide a "home" for the Y here for the first time since the beginning of the program more than forty years ago. Edwards and his staff have been active in the campaign since beginning several months ago. Edwards said, "Never before has there been so great a need for growth—to provide for the rising stream of young people and the thousands of new citizens of North Orange County opportunities for active participation in the many programs which the YMCA offers. The Y, looking ahead, is accepting the challenge to give more service to the entire area by planning its new facilities to serve the total family group. It is sound business to make this investment. The telephone companies are running out of phone numbers. Therefore the nation's telephone system has started doing away with the alphabet. Nearly 24 million phones have been added in this country just since 1950. Each one needed a number with a word prefix that people could understand. The problem of finding such prefixes was getting tougher all the time. The experts concluded after a lot of study and tests that here was only one thing they could do and still give folks the service they want: change the system. So, eventually, phone numbers won't be partly letters and partly numbers, but all digits. Safety First For Boating Pleasure Portrait of the victim of a death-dealing boating accident: A male 20-44 years of age—just when he's getting the most fun out of life. The actual operator of the boat, probably. On a fishing trip. Cause of the accident: failure to use common sense. "America is literally a nation going—in droves—down to the sea in ships," says the National Safety Council. "It's falling head-over-heels in love with boating." According to the Council, a non-governmental agency concerned with all forms of safety, 40 million persons take part regularly in recreational boating. About 1,300 persons die each year in boating accidents. "And most of the deaths should..."
