C-4 Anaheim Gazette (Anaheim, Thursday, June 30, 1960) US Navy to Unveil New Secret Weapon A new secret weapon will soon be unveiled by the Navy Department. It will be known as ASROC, a rocket-propelled homing torpedo that can dive underwater to kill a submarine. The rocket engine uses solid fuel and is designed to be fired from a submerged submarine. Vice Adm. Wallace M. Beakley, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, described it as "Missile that will be projected to the target area and, upon water entry, will become an acoustic homing torpedo." This apparently means a cruiser or destroyer could stand well off fro man enemy submarine while launching the weapon like a missile. After it struck the water, the rocket would behave like a torpedo drawn to a submerged target by the sound of its engines. 27 Station Wagons By Chrysler Corp. The rates of per diem wages for each of the various classifications of work shall be the hereinbefore set prices of hourly wage multiplied by eight.Eighth wage constitute a day's work, it being understood that in the event that workmen are employed less than eight hours per day the per diem wage shall be that fraction of the per diem wage herein established that the number of hours of employment bears to eight hours. Each bid shall be made out on a form to be obtained at the office of the City Clerk or the City Engineer of the City of Anaheim and shall be accompanied by a certified or cashier check or bid bond for ten (10) per cent of the amount of the bid, made payable to the City of Anaheim, and shall be sealed and delivered to the City Clerk at the City Hall of the City of Anaheim before 2:00 o'clock P.M. daily at 1960. PURSUANT to the provisions of Section 1770 of the Labor Code, the City Council of the City of Anaheim has accepted the general prevailing rate of wages in the locality in which applicable work is more particularly set forth in the plans and specifications on file in the Office of the City Engineer or City Clerk, Project No. 80; and shall be tabulated by the City Engineer and the result thereof received to City Council its next regular or adjourned regularizing action thereon by said City Council.
