dents at a cost to the City of Hope of nearly $50,000."
"OUR RESPONSE to the great humanitarian service rendered by this Medical Center to those in our midst must be a strengthened resolve to help the City of Hope help us by our increased support on Hope Sunday."
Funds contributed by Orange County residents will be used to treat, absolutely without charge, those stricken by cancer, the leukemias, blood, chest and operable heart disorders, Judge West pointed out.
Simultaneously, donations will help underwrite a ceaseless program of research aimed at the eradication of physically, emotionally and financially catastrophic illnesses, he added.
Pointing out that the City of Hope could not exist without the generous assistance of a county-wide "network of good neighbors," Judge West emphasized, "I am sure that one June 5 every one of us will be the kind of a good neighbor who will answer from the heart when a volunteer neighbor calls at his door."
VP Contributes to Y Building Fund
Vice President Richard Nixon made a contribution to the North Orange County YMCA Building Fund Drive with wishes that the drive be successful.
In a letter to Drive Chairman Joe Johnson, the nations Vice President said, "It is indeed gratifying to know that you are making so much progress on this important project, and you certainly have my very best wishes for the success of your effort to provide a place for carrying out the splendid activities of the YMCA in the North Orange County area."
HE RECALLED in the letter that he had gone to school at Yorba Linda and in Fullerton, and realizes the need for YMCA facilities.
The YMCA campaign now under way has a goal of $350,000 for the construction of a "home" for the "Y" which will be located in a central spot in the huge North Orange County area. Plans to build two more buildings in the district are now complete and will be developed after money is available for the central location.

Sign Project Gets Sanction at FJC
Plans for a new sign in front of Fullerton Junior College continued to brighten this week as the college Student Commission approved plans to finance the project through student body funds.
The new sign, although its final design is not entirely set, is to be of heavy construction, lighted, and contain a display board large enough to announce current events at the college to passing motorists. It will replace a modest iron sign that has hung in front of the college administration building for many years.
The new sign will be paid for through surplus Associated Student Body funds, according to KSB President Bill Lives.

The same Corvair that tallied a thumping 27.03 miles per gallon* in the Mobilgas Economy Run... went right on to climb Pikes Peak earlier in the spring than any car has ever tried!
We wanted to show you what the fabulous traction of Corvair's rear-engine design and the sure-footedness of four-wheel independent suspension really mean. So the identical Economy Run car went right on to 14,110-foot Pikes Peak—and right up to the top of that savage mountain, on April 15, still deep in winter’s snow and ice. No other car—even specially equipped—had ever been able to conquer that nightmare alpine road so early in the spring. But Corvair (with United States Auto Club officials aboard to certify that not one nut or bolt was changed) purred right to the summit without chains or even snow tires! That just underscores the fact that Corvair is totally unique. But you'll find that out the first five minutes you're at the wheel!
