A dramatic example of cooperation from throughout an entire industry is presented each year in the construction of a model home to be given away at the Orange County Home Show. The model being built this year under supervision of Marvin E. Lawrence, home show chairman, is typical of the project completed each year as part of the big show presented by the Orange County Builders Assn. This year's dates are April 6-10. From its initial design to its maintenance and upkeep. The home has been dubbed the Horizon House. It is actually a modification of the floor plan utilized in a proposed multi-story apartment house which the Marvin E. Lawrence Co. plans to build or Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach. THE AMBITIOUS project planned for the 1960 home show is a two-bedroom contemporary home which emphasizes leisurely indoor-outdoor living, makes efficient use of all available living space and is designed for ease of maintenance and upkeep. The home has been dubbed the Horizon House. It is actually a modification of the floor plan utilized in a proposed multi-story apartment house which the Marvin E. California Bank, savings and loan associations—Costa Mesa, Mission of Santa Ana, KEYSTONE OF ANAHEIM, Laguna Federal and Fullerton—joined the project. All three local title insurance companies—Orange County, Security and the Title Insurance Co.—provided funds. The Orange County Lumbermen's Club donated money and also coordinated supply of lumber for the house. EVEN OFFICIALS or Orange Coast College were willing to assstruction class to the project to do preliminary framing and carpentry in the all-industry project. O'Keefe & Merritt Co. is providing its newest built-in cooking units—range, oven and a new surface unit which is actually a built-in gas barbecue. Norge is providing the newest gas refrigerator for the home. As the call spread throughout the industry for help on the project materials began to accumulate. The W. P. Kelly, Harrigan & Meeks, interior decorating service, of Santa Ana's Fashion Square, is planning the decor of the home and, with the cooperation of Kalpe Furniture of Inglewood, will even furnish the home with a new line of furnishings custom designed and color coordinated specifically for Horizon House. St. John New Area Telephone Chief P. J. St. John recently assumed the duties of district plant manager for Pacific Telephone. He will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of telephone service in Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Placentia and Yorba Linda. These locations are manned by a total force of 350. The new manager and his staff have headquarterters in Anaheim.
