IN THE DAYS OF LONG AGO March 15, 1872 We learn that when the news reached San Francisco of the beaching of two of the lighters at Anaheim Landing the N.P.T. Company immediately refused to receive freight for that point not knowing whether they could discharge it. Our fellow citizen Phil Davis was in the city, purchasing a large new stock for his establishment here, but was unable to ship it until he telegraphed to Anaheim and received assurance that the lighter company was prepared to discharge freight as usual. A. Montarg's exhibition of living wonders arrived in town yesterday and will show this evening at Enterprise hall. Doors open at 7 o'clock, performance will consist of an exhibition of the bearded lady, the Circassian girl, the one armed violinist and a performance of legerdemain. The best of music in confection with the perfromance. Admission 50 cents, front seats 25 cents, children half price. One night only. Deeds filed—G. Allen et al to James Carroll, 10 acres of land in Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana for $1090. —Louis Durr to Geo. C. Knox et al, a lot in Anaheim for $250. —Wm. M. Bailey to John The first prize was won by Miss Marie Rimpau, and the progressive by Miss Rose Robison. After the game dainty refreshments were served and later the guests departed for their homes. The next meeting will be held at the home of the Misses Zeyn. Miss Margaret Landell has been selected as one of the maids of honor to the queen of the Fiesta in Los Angeles. Miss Landell is one of our typical young ladies for beauty, worth and talent and we do not think a more appropriate selection could have been made. Rev. Harry W. White, son of Rev. White of this city, was married yesterday morning at Chino to Miss Ida Winifred Smith, of that town. The numerous friends of the happy couple residing here extend the felicitations of the season. Mrs. Konig entertained a number of friends at her home Saturday evening in honor of Mr. Konig's birthday. The centerpiece in the table decorations was one of Mrs. Konig's famous cakes artistically decorated by that lady. During the evening members of the Liederkranz tendered Mr. Konig an open air serenade. armed violinist and a performance of legerdemain. The best of music in confection with the perfromance. Admission 50 cents, front seats 25 cents, children half price. One night only. Deeds filed—G. Allen et al to James Carroll, 10 acres of land in Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana for $1000. —Louis Durr to Geo. C. Knox et al, a lot in Anaheim for $250. —Wm. M. Bailey to John M. Bush, 1/5 interest in 1550 acres in Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana for $300. —L. W. Kirley to Cyrus R. Rawson portion of Rancho Las Bolsas for $1500. —Wm H. Spurgeon to George H. Beniss, lot in the town of Santa Ana for $250. The long talked of restaurant is at length to become a reality. Peter Richards informs us that, in company with Mr. Marcovich, he expects to open a fine restaurant where fresh oysters and ice cream will be, furnished, within three or four weeks from date, in the building adjoining Enterprise hall on Los Angeles street. Mr. Marcovich goes to San Francisco Monday to purchase supplies. The enterprising firm of Helmann and George have purchased the fine vineyard of Jowle Keller in this town, for the sum of $10,000, and are laying the same out in town lots, which they offer for sale at cheap prices, and on easy terms, not to speculators, but to those who will improve them. This property has a fine frontage on Los Angeles and Sycamore streets, in one of the pleasantest locations in town and contains some of the best residences in Anaheim. Messrs. Backs has purchased from ex-Gov. Downey the store building on the west side of Los Angeles street, formerly occupied by M. Calisher and will open a furniture store there. Mrs. M. Luedke has sent us a large basket full of the finest semi-tropical dried fruits, raisins, figs, peaches and apples. Beautiful to the eye and exceedingly pleasant to the taste. An elegant armored violinist and a performance of legerdemain. The best of music in confection with the perfromance. Admission 50 cents, front seats 25 cents, children half price. One night only. An elegant bouquet of beautiful flowers, artistically arranged accompanied the fruit. Many thanks. Our friend, Lawrence of the Los Angeles store, paid us a visit Saturday last on the occasion of the Firemen's ball. 63 YEARS AGO March 25, 1897 Lawrence Boldt, who spent his school days here, came down from San Francisco yesterday on a business visit and will spend several days here renewing old acquaintances. He is associated with Wm. Roach in the dental supply business in the metropolis. Lawrence picked out the false teeth in this establishment, that was placed in Jim Crockett's jaw in place of one knocked out by Banky Bole at Carson a week or so ago. County Surveyor Kellogg is reviewing a survey of a canal from Lake Elsinore to a connection with the system of pipe lines supplying Corona with water, and has prepared plans which will add an available supply over the present canal sufficient to irrigate 10,000 acres. The Misses Rimpau delightfully entertained the Y.L.S.C. last Saturday at their home. The afternoon was spent in playing euchre. Residents from Anaheim, Santa Ana, Fullerton, Seal Beach and San Diego were among those who visited the office of Congressman James B. Utt while they were in Washington, D.C., in March. Mrs. LeRoy E. Lyon, Jr., 528 Princeton Circle West, Fullerton, flew back on a brief trip to join her husband, who is assistant general counsel for the California Railroad Association, and to attend a dinner honoring former California Lt. Governor John Powers. Recently commissioned Army Lt. Richard B. Hathcock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard V. Hathcock, 1202 Kenwood in Anaheim, was in Washington prior to being stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. He and his wife, who is the daughter of Robert McDill Carr, consul general to Bombay, India, toured the Capitol, including Senate and House of Representatives sessions. John W. Mann, 529 N. Yale St., Fullerton, assistant superintendent in charge of instruction for the Fullerton school system and formerly in charge of its personnel department, was in Washington to attend the national convention of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. R. J. Steinmeyer, 609 Lemon Hill Terrace, Fullerton, patent counsel for Beckman Instruments, was in Washington on a business trip and to attend a two-day symposium, Industry-Government Conference on Government Procurement Patent Policy. Other visitors included: Wendell McAllister, 1110 W. Third St., Santa Ana; Mrs. Zelda A. Dunlap, 324 Fifteenth St., Seal Beach; Lee M. Sullivan, 4085 Goldfinch St., San Diego.
