At last our society is waking up and beginning to do something for the genius child. Which reminds us that the kids can either be pests or blessings, depending on who's talking. One mother of a particularly bright one was told by his teacher—this was some years ago—that her child was a misfit. This was in kindergarten. A substitute teacher who had the child in tow for a couple of days called the mother on the telephone and said that teaching her child had been a rare privilege. So it goes—
But in the current sessions of the California Congress of Parents and Teachers in Sacramento, one of the items on the agenda will be the presentation of a summary of the Study Project of Programs for Gifted Pupils. This project was initiated in 1958 under the direction of the State Department of Education. A bit late for the mother mentioned above and a bit late for many other parents of gifted children. But, let us emphasize, this is one case in which it is definitely better late than never.
In this definitely urban civilization of ours it is a bit starting to think that there are so many high schools and junior college students majoring in agricultural subjects.
Last Saturday more than 900 of these students took part in the Tenth Annual Agricultural Education Field Day at California Polytechnic College in Pomona.
