Rex Scott has been elected an assistant vice president of Robertshaw-Fulton Controls Company, T. T. Arden, president, announced. Mr. Scott is general manager of the firm's Western Research Center, Anaheim. Mr. Scott joined the controls company in 1950 as a patent attorney. Later, he was a district sales manager and director of planning. He received degrees in engineering and law from the University of Wisconsin. He is a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association and the Patent Bar. Air Base Land Sold at Mesa The remaining acreage of the once sprawling Santa Ana Air Base has been sold to a construction company. The U.S. Government auctioned the remaining 248.19 acres of the wartime training base in Costa Mesa to Macco Corp. for $734,610, or $19,000 per acre. Macco immediately announced plans to begin residential construction on the weed-covered land. When the Soviets talk of a softer line, what they actually mean is not being quite so brutal. In referring to the company's study of consumer interests in this city, Kane disclosed that after a decision was made over a year ago to build a new store here, this action was followed by a team effort of several Safeway departments to obtain the right site and create the type of store, with appropriate equipment and fixtures, to accommodate the findings of their consumer analysis. Results of this study are found in the features of the new store and its extensive line of merchandise, the official said. The 20,000 square foot unit is of tilt-up concrete construction, attractively finished with stone, mosaic tile, and wide expanses of glass on the front exterior. CENTER ANAHEIM 351 Million Tax Exemption By Area Vets Orange County is the state's fourth-ranking county in the number and amount of tax exemptions given veterans. The state Board of Equalization reports that during 1959, 54,265 veterans filed $51,953,000 in tax exemptions in the County. The per veteran tax exemption average in the County was $957, the third largest in the state. Los Angeles County led the state by exempting from tax rolls, $416,080,000. Statewide the 1959 exemption bill was $978,278,000. Goodyear Plans Anaheim Store Plans for the construction of a new, modern Goodyear Service Store at the southwest corner of Brookhurst street and Colchester drive, in Anaheim were announced today by B. L. Lockridge, Southern California district manager of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. The new establishment will occupy a total of 15,000 square feet with 100 feet fronting on Brookhurst and a depth of 150 feet on the Colchester drive side. Construction is scheduled to begin, according to District Manager Lockridge, as soon as plans are approved by the City of Anaheim's Building Department. It is estimated that construction will be accomplished in approximately 90 days after initial groundbreaking.
